BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I was wondering is it safe for my BTS if I use a hot glue gun to glue wood in his tank togather? And I finally thought of a name for my BTS, Niko.

I've used it to do my decorating.

I like the name too.

Will the hot glue be sturdy enough to hold his cage together?

Are you sure? That hasn't been my experience with it and I would hate for you to put in all that work and have it not last.

Try a good quality, non-toxic, cabinet makers glue. I bought some from Lee Valley and the stuff is fantastic. Stronger than screws and nails....I'm not joking.

Thanks for asking this question. I was wondering myself. I have a bunch of artificial plants just kinda "stuck" in the tank but I know my bluey will dig them up and they'll be everywhere.

I would use Elmer's wood glue if you can get it. It's made for that very reason. Also, cool name- I was thinking of it actually, but I thought someone else on the forum already had it for their bluey. I guess I was right!

When I get mine, I think I am going to take a poll because Im having a hard time choosing.

If you glue your tank together, mark my words (or just refer to this post in the future via bookmark), it *will* fall apart eventually. Hot glue is for crafts, not construction. If you move the structure, bump the structure or simply over time, the glue will get weak and crack, sometimes the seals will just fail. Especially in an environment where there's definately going to be temperature and humidity changes and movement on a daily basis.

I'd highly suggest you build it properly with cross-bracing, screws and a good design. If you don't know how to build a proper structure, find someone who does, or refit an already existing piece of furniture to suit your needs. Bookshelves with doors and second-hand furniture in general can provide 90% of the structure, space and design you need with little editing. Search through some of the posts and see some of the amazing things members here have designed and ask them to help you.

Normally I'd just laugh and at a question like this, but I'd feel pretty bad if a project collapsed with a helpless animal inside and I said nothing.

Please rethink your engineering decision.

Glue is a supllimentary skicking medium, srews or nails are the best form of fixings

Things made with hot glue usually fall apart fairly quickly. Although I do have some curtains I sewed and then glued on leaves and ferns and they just will not die! I kept saying I'd replace them when the stuff fell off. I'm still waiting.

Niko isn't that the name of one of zach's skinks? I'm pretty sure he has a beautiful White northern boy by that name.

I would assume it would be "neeko" but i guess it could be "nye-ko" heck it could be "nick-o" for that matter.

Polyester? Um, no. The glue would be the least of my worries.

Nowadays I'm much happier with Gorilla Glue for hems.

I'd be funny to watch you attempt to clean out the mess though.

What is your dryer only stuck on "Permanent Press?" They do have other temeratures, you know...

In fact, if there ever was a mishap with hot glue, I'm certain it'd have a hard time sticking to the smooth surface of the metal on the inside of a dryer once gold. It'd probably peel right off.
