mort (Rosalita Grace) - IS HERE!!!!!!! pictures inside!!!!!

Postby boonaen » Tue Jul 24, 2007 7:53 am

here is the photochronical of rosie's move into her new home, complete with unpacking and stuff!!!

before the pics, though, may i give a great big heart-felt THANK YOU to zach and holly for caring so much. if it weren't for this site, i would've gotten a skink from the pet store and had NO idea what to do with it.

so, here goes:

rosalita came packed in a box... nothing exciting about that:
Image

but when i opened it, there was a thank you message! i know, not a big deal, but it shows that they do care. i appreciated it!
Image

then, peanust... i think these are the biodegradable ones made of flour (maybe). if so, super cool! if not, at least it was well packed!
Image

then a bag with a well-tied knot:
Image

so - the way I did it was as follows...
put the bag in the tank
Image

open it up and take a peak. oh, by the way, this little skink was hissing up a fit in there... hee hee, i understand. after my flight to Colombia 2 years ago, i was pretty moody.
Image
Image
Image
Image

after a bit (less than 30 minutes) she was ready to come out... i suspect the warmth from the basking lamp was just too much for her to ignore...
Image
Image
Image

i think she likes the tunnel i made for her... she went back and forth thru it 4 or 5 times!
Image

and, finally, as we would all expect, she made her way to the rock to sit in comfort in her new home!
Image

while my daughter excitedly drew her new favorite pet!

Congratulations! I just smashed a dinner plate so I might steal your PVC-mosaic idea. I just re-lived my own experience getting my baby skink through these pictures. I wanted to save the bag he came in, you know, for sentimental purposes, but he pooped all over it.

i reached in a bit ago, just to take a temp reading...

hee hee - she doesn't want to be bothered right now.

it's tough, repeating to my daughter that "we're not bothering the skink until tomorrow..."

Charlotte came today too! Unfortunately, I have not taken my memory card to Walmart yet (so I'll post her thread this weekend!) Charlotte was a little hissy too so I put her bag in the cage too. That seems like a good idea to give them time to unwind from the trip. Oh, thanks for all the pictures. I was so excited to get mine out that I passed up some of the pictures in the box/bag, etc!

I love homecoming pictures. I remember that day well, myself.

I'm glad you ended up with one "our" babies. :edward: You have roughly the next 2 decades to appreciate that fact! :2thumbs: We also love to see them going to people active on the forum, so we can see them.

Congrats, if there's anything you need, let us know.

wow, they can get around well for being so small.

so, my wife loves it, but she won't say so outloud. the skink was crawling off the pipe thing and did a little belly slide thing and my wife giggled. i looked over and she tried to act liek she was reading.

then, like 10 minutes later i walk past the room and she's standing at the tank making goo-goo noises.

and.... because i am impatient, we got little Rosie out. she didn't hiss not once (though she didn't seem to want us grabbing her). i let her crawl all over me and my daughter... we both fed her a couple pinches of cat food by hand. then, reluctantly, put her back.

i know that they sometimes don't want to eat much when the first get home. i'll give it another day and if she doesn't eat, i'll ask for advice. i mean, she will eat as much CAT FOOD as we will hand feed her, but she's not touching the cat food / collard green mix i made.

hmmmmm... guess ima go to bed and dream about my skink. not cause i want to, but because it's been on my mind all day, so i'm bound to dream about it. (hope it doesn't eat me)
