right now i am working on a large tank for my bluey, but i am unsure about one thing, the cover, i dont know what to make of it, i was going to get a screen top, but no one near sells screen tops at my cage demensions, then i thought i should go with a wooden top and put the lighting under the cover, but my skink is a good climber and i dont want him burning him self.
also, i was wondering if it is possible during the summer, in stead of keeping my skink inside, i could get him to bask outside to get his U.V rays during the summer, is that okay?
two questions

You could make 2 wooden frames of the top and put a screen from home depot or lowes in between the two. Then get hinges and make it swing open from the top.

Supervised is the key word. Tink and I were outside the otherday and in a matter of seconds he was running towards our garden. I heard a noise and turned my head and in one minute he was gone. He was just burying himself within the flowers but they move quick when they want to.

Also watch out for them trying to eat stuff. I live in a very urban area and so I have to go the park to even see grass. The only reason I even go to this particular park is because it's kind of ghetto and full of weeds, so I doubt they spray it with anything. But it's still urban, so who knows what sort of funk has seeped into the local bugs. I'm right there to pull anything away as soon as he gets "the look" that says there's food.
