Except for bogus rumors, it's almost impossible to visually identify the sex of a blue tongue.

Check out the care sheet for more info.

Hi, is this a new buddy for you? I couldn't help but notice his poor little toes, and I just wanted to give some advice: He looks a lot like mine, (I got mine from a friend of a friend and was told it is the Indonesian/Merauke type, which are mostly wild caught! :( ), and I have no clue about the sex/gender of my Bluey. However, my excellent Herp veterinarian said that probing/popping is a very bad idea to find out the gender, and unless you plan on breeding, it doesn't matter anyways. So, love your skink for whatever he/she is, they're great critters, and yes, please do read the care sheet! Have him/her checked out at a good herp vet, because unless you got it from a known and reputable captive breeder, it was very likey wild caught, and needs a check up for parasites! (Mine's being treated for hookworm at the moment.) Good luck, and I'm glad you found this forum, there is a wealth of caring people who have excellent exerience and advice!

I found out today that my Bluey is a boy! (See the care sheet for info!)
I guess if you know what to look for, and you wait long enough, your skink will tell you whether its a boy or girl! :D

As mentioned ,the safest way is to wait for the pink poker to make a showing, or look for sperm plugs, is it essential to know?

There's a lot of people who get simply *MUST* know the sex of their pets for some reason, Leigh. I try to discourage this for fear they'll take them to some "expert" that will end up injuring the animal for no reason.

I say make up a sex until they prove you otherwise.

It's only essential to know sex if you intend to breed otherwise it's not like a boy BTS is gonna be upset cuz you named it Sally or a Girl get deppressed cuz you named it Jim Bob.
