BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I think that I must just be a nervous mommy, but it seems like Sebastian doesn't eat much. He will nibble at his food, but gets distracted easily. If I replace him and put his nose in the food he'll continue to eat, but still he doesn't consume much. Is there some rule of thumb for how much a baby will eat? Thanks guys!

I'm not sure the "rule of thumb" but my little one only eats once a day. I put food in twice a day but she only eats a quarter of the first meal and ignores the second feeding all together. I figure they have little tummies at this age (1 month) and as long as she poops once a day, I don't worry about it.

Little Charlotte doesn't eat much compared to Pele' but she puts my adult crested gecko's appetite to shame. Proportionately, I am giving her slightly more protein (which is more filling) and less greenery than I give my adult. I am increasing the amt of veggies and expect her to eat greater quantities as she grows bigger and eats proportionately more greens. Right now, I estimate that she eats a quarter-sized amount of food once a day. Is that about what your guys consume in a day? It is amazing how much poop one little lizard can generate. Glad that that tapers down with age!

My baby was a month and a half old when I got him. I am not sure about a "rule of thumb" either, but I estimate he ate about 1 to 1.5 tablespoons of food per meal -- sometimes a little more and sometimes less. Now I am talking about bite-sized chopped pieces of meat and squash and greens, not a dense mush, so a tablespoon of that would contain a lot of empty space. So if what you're feeding is mushy perhaps it looks like they're not eating much but it's actually very filling...? Like a milkshake? A steak milkshake?

I usually fed him outside the cage because I liked to observe, but outside of his home he'd get distracted and stop eating sometimes. So I'd just put him and the food back in the cage, quit bugging him, and usually he'd go back within half an hour to eat a little more.

If he's not eating everyday it's okay to switch to every other. Spike and Baylee both ate like pigs for the first year of their life, they'd clear their plates and eat second of just plain veggies/greens. When I got Saphira I expected the same thing but she would only take a couple of bites when I fed her everyday so I switched her to everyother day when she was a month or two and she ate better.
