BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

These guys looks pretty cool...are they related...i assume they would be.
Just saw 3 for $250, if any Aussies are interested.

Ya know, I wonder sometimes if the BTS is the animal along the evolutionary chain between lizards and snakes. I mean, take off the legs and elongate the body and Sammy looks just like a snake! Just much more intelligient.

I mean, is it impossible to believe that millions of years ago, fishlike creatures evolved into snakes which evolved into BTS which evolved into other forms of lizards which evolved into bla bla bla. You get the idea. And after seeing this pink tongue, I'm beginning to believe it even more.

From my minimal experience with Pink tongues, they are very docile and use their tails a lot. People house them with some of the Rhacodactylus species... I don't. They are voracious snail eaters, too. And yes, they are loooonnng.

Do you find that the Pink tongues are intelligent like the Blue tongues? If they are similar, I could see myself this time next year with a PTS! Do they get as large as the BTS?

In the U.S you can expect to pay 200+ for only one. They are pretty cool though....more arboreal than blue tongues. I can't attest to their intelligence though.

So if I were to get a Pink Tongue skink I would definitely need a tall enclosure with some tree branches for it to climb...

I wonder what they eat... I think I'll do a search online and find out.

I've seen them in classifieds for about $250. They can eat cat food. They are neat too. Oh, so little time and space!

They're not THAT arboreal. I believe a 40 gallon breeder would suit them just fine.

I think I'm gonna stick with blue tongues.. they seem more interesting.

Sorry, I didn't answer before. I don't know that much about them. A Rhac breeder I know keeps them with the R. ciliatus in a very arboreal set up. They eat snails mostly, in her care. I believe she paid appx. $150 each for hers, too.

They don't get as large as BTS. They are long... mostly tail... and slender.

I wouldn't mind having a couple, but then I like skinks almost as much as I like a few of the gecko species. Although, the Bluey I am getting soon... hopefully... will be my first CB "any" skink, as I mostly had WC 'five lines' and such that I tracked down as a kid growing up in the Southeastern US.
