BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

As some of you may know, I was considering converting a bookcase into a new enclosure but I've decided to go larger if possible.

So many ideas running through my head lately. Don't mean to seem scatter-brained. Just want to do this ONCE and RIGHT, ya know?

I am looking to either fit a larger enclosure where my current 20 gallon is or clear out a space for a 5 footer! And possibly a stand that holds two so I won't have to get rid of my 20 gallon.

I found this tv stand and wanted to know your opinion (yes you! ). Do you think this would work for a conversion into an enclosure with sliders? It seems to be the right dimensions for what I want.

I just wonder how much more I'll need (money-wise) to purchase and install the sliding doors on front, lights on each side, etc.

Have you tried looking around a tag sales. You might be able to find something you can use for a lot cheaper.

I'm thinking about taking a trip to the Salvation Army store this week. They may have something similar. It figures I just donated a long dresser that would've been perfect!

Well, atleast I've narrowed down what size and shape I'm looking for...

I have seen the heavy shelving units (Lowe's/Home Depot) made into bluey cages. There is a picture in the Bluey Bible of one. It doesn't look as "furniture-like" as a dresser but it does still leave extra shelf space. The large ones are on sale for $60 or so at HD. Haven't a clue how they did the sliding glass doors on those!
Also, if you can build one, I have a link for an easy, inexpensive one. It doesn't look as nice as Zach's/Renee's and it doesn't show how to suspend the lights, but I think it would do the job. Try this address: www.cornsnakes.com/forums/showthread.php?t=44019 and see what you think.
Have you seen the ones Zach did? If I had the carpentry skills, I would go that route. They are individual units that are stacked. That way you can always "expand" your bluey collection!
If you go to Salvation Army or a resale shop, some bookcases have glass fronts and are a little deeper. My folks have one that would work great for a bluey house--unfortunately it is an "antique" that they are quite fond of. Do keep an eye out for these. You might have to put a lock on, increase ventilation, and refinish with a safer finish but that would look first rate!

Yeah, I checked out the one that you gave me a link to. It looks nice but I want something short and long. You are right though, Zach did an excellent job on his! Hopefully, I'll do something as nice. Wish me luck in finding that "perfect piece". I'll keep you posted!

You can occasionally buy a copy of the bluey bible from Zach for something like $95 I think. He has it listed on The Skink Store page.. It's a German book (right?) that was recently translated into English, and therefore needs to be imported. I think Zach gets a shipment once or twice a year.. or as the need comes about.

Better to ask him about it though.

Sold one yesterday; I think there's only one left.

Looks like it could work! What is the width? Is it 6 feet long?

It's 59 1/2" so I'd say that's nearly 5 feet. I think if it was done right it could look really nice.

BTW, what is the Bluey Bible???

zach wil come on and tell you any moment like the enigma he is...

anyway in my own words its pretty much a book that has every thing you will ever need to know about pretty much any aspect of bluey keeping...

It's the "one and only" scientific BTS book!

I'd buy it but I feel like I've learned almost all I need to know right here!

There is always more to learn. I haven't gotten a bluey bible yet, but I do drool over it on a regular basis. It has some AMAZING information that will keep you busy for hours. Most on this site feel that it is one of the only reliable sources of bluey information (outside of the caresheet of course).

The Bluey Bible is a mind-spinning tome of bluey nerdiness. It's a good book for when you simply have to know things about blueys you never knew existed.
