Got my skink today-have a couple of questions

Postby lmb02 » Thu Aug 09, 2007 7:38 pm

I finally got to bring home my skink with MBD and I am very excited about it! Just had a few questions about him. First off I just wanted to know if sleeping during the day is ok. I know that it is a bad sign for certain reptiles. Second I wanted to know if prickely pears are okay to feed (they are a type of cactus) and are the seeds okay to eat or should they be cut out of all fruits? Also it is okay to feed them green peppers? I have read over the feeding list and purchased several of the items but wanted to know if a few extras would be okay. If anyone has some reccommendations about foods that are not listed that would be great!! Thanks for reading!!

My lizards like red bell peppers.. I assume for the sweetness of them.. so green should be okay. Prickly pears are okay... we were just going over this in another thread the other day. I don't think they'd pick the seeds out in the wild, nor have a human chef preparing their meals and doing it for them... so it should be okay in moderation..... but I do pick out my babies' seeds :D

They're spoiled brats, though!

Congratulations on bringing your guy home!!!! Green pepers are fine. I've also fed my guys the yellow and orange ones. I've fed my guys cactus pads and the cactus pear. The first time I fed them the cactus pear they couldn't touch it but when I tried again a year or so later, they loved it. Crazy skinks. I'm trying to remember are the seeds in the middle or mixed in with the fruit. If they are mixed in with the fruit them my guys eat the seads, if they are in the middle I probably scoopped most of them out.

Yes, sleeping during the day is normal. They tend to be more active in the morning, have a siesta during the middle of the day and then might come out again in the evening.

Some are more active than others. There's no set rule. He'll need a few days to settle in and get comfortable in his surroundings and then you'll probably start to see more of him. Whilst they're not overly active, they are very inquisitive.
