Anomaly or abnormality?

Postby Lisa » Sun Aug 12, 2007 9:51 pm

I was just going through some photos I took of Santos on the weekend, and I noticed he has a funny little scale that appears on both sides of his face. On his top lip, I've drawn arrows to them.

Now everytime I look at him or a photo of him my eye is drawn straight to it. At least it's on both sides so he's uniform. It'd drive me crazy if not!
It reminds me of a weird slack jawed yokel kind of tooth poking through. Hyuck Hyuck.

You can see it well in this one, too

I can't believe I've only spotted it now because looking back on old photos, he's always had them.

So, does anyone else have one that's got something unusual in their scales?

My guess would be that it's nothing to worry about if it's on both sides(hopefully there isn't some sort of symmetric disease outbreak i'm not aware of or something, haha). Awesome looking lizard btw!

You're gonna give that baby a complex... he's cute with his little "hyuck hyuck" scales on both sides :D

My Bronson has the same thing, its like a freak scale on both sides of his mouth. His are in a different spot though but still the same kinda thing so it must be normal.

I've noticed a few bllueys with odd lip scales. One of the gigas that I checked out in Portland had 2 rows of lip scales on one side of her face. Nothing to worry about, it just gives them a little more personality and uniqueness.

Oh no, I didn't think there was anything wrong with him!! It just drives me to distraction now that I know they're there! I'm weird about things like that.

But I wonder, in the Bluey Bible, one of the determining factors in identifying the different types of blue tongues is a scale count on their heads & faces. Maybe I have a new species of shingleback???

That's a good looking Gigas, Renee. He looks like butter wouldn't melt! Although those extra scales do make him look like he's snarling

Lisa, if Santos' scales continue driving you to distractions, feel free to smuggle the little guy over here!!!  I have always wanted to feel/hold a shingleback. I don't even know where I can see one around here! Definitely on my list of things to do before I die!
