BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

How gutted was I when I woke up Sunday morning?I went to feed the fish and saw one of my monster Plec's flippin out for an unknown reason, 10 mins later it pelted round went belly up and DIED .I'd had him for over nine years from a little two inch nipper, he topped out at over a foot.




R.I.P. Tom, my largest fish.

Im so sorry for your loss.
I don't mean to sound ignorant but what is the life expectancy for this type of fish?

I have a pleco named Plec that looks just like Tom! He is approx. 3 years old and is so hardy! We lost power due to a hurricane a few years back and had to stay with my monster-in-law until the power came back on here. When we returned, all my fish had died except him! I was so happy to see that he was okay.

He has a ways to go before he's as big as your Tom, though. I think they are beautiful little animals... So sorry Tom had to go. But he did stick around for a long time, didn't he? He must've been a happy camper.

Aww man I'm sorry. I have a 13 inch 7 year old Pleco and I would be very upset if he died.

At least I'm sure he had a good life with you.

For whoever it was that asked the common Pleco (Hypostomas Plecostomus) Doesn't at this time have a known life span though some have been known to live over 30 years.

Aww, poor Tom. I too have owned several plecos, and currently have 1 which is 4 inches. My family had one when I was young, named Lips, and he lived for at least 15+ years and grew to a huge size, nearly 2 feet! I was so sad when Lips died, and I'm sorry Tom passed on. Plecos are definately an amazing fish. Also, has anyone else had trouble getting a new pleco home? I've had 2 that popped the water bag they were in -.-'.

I'm very sorry Tom is gone. Some people find it hard to believe that we can get attached to our fish too, but it's so true.

I have a "Hi-fin" Pleco named Senor Succi.. he's about 6" now.

It's a good idea to have the LFS double bag your Pleco and then place the bagged fish in a bucket for safe transfer. These fish are "armored" and can easily puncture a bag if they stress and begin "flashing".

sorry for the loss of your Plec. He was a biggun, tho'! And I know you gave him a good life. I don't know much about fish, but I know you can treat them or their water if something goes wrong, so I was wondering, any ideas on what may have happened?

Sorry about your fishy. I bought my kids fish and I never knew how attached I would become. I don't have any beauties like Tom but I understand the attachment. So sorry for your loss. kathy

Whoa! TWO Feet? max size on the biggest species is 18 inches.

Plecos should be double bagged (properly) then wrapped in butcher paper and bagged again, their skin has sharp ridges and feir fins have spines that will tear through otherwise. (Don't try to pick them up bare handed either- OUCH!)

You should see some of the different species of pleco's out there, Zebras, Queen Arabesque, Royal, Snowball, man if everyone didn't just see the standard browns more people would have a HUGE interest in Plecs.

(Sorry, Fish keeping is another passion of mine for those who couldn't tell. )

Thanks for all the replies everyone, no idea what went wrong, they cant get out because of the condense tray, the other Plec's fine{he's Jerry} and an inch longer,also an angel fish is in there with nothing wrong so

Plecos dying is strange; I've seen these things live for months in fish tanks that were unplugged and abandoned. They get huge.
