Is this kind of cactus good for them?

Yes, just be sure to remove the spines before feeding. There's a great section in the caresheet about preparing the cactus.

Some of the spines are very fine and easily can lodge in their mouths and throats, plus it makes it easier for you to handle as well.

Talk to Jenn about cactus; she gets it freaky cheap and (I think) has fed more of it than any of us...

My guys love it and I get it for 50 cents a pad or pear so a lot of the times it's a main staple of my guys diet. A lot of places despine it or atleast get rid of some of the spines so I try and get one with the least amont of spines. In alot of the cases the worst of the spines is at the top so I'll just cut it off and throw it away. I then just chop up the rest and add it to the mix. It's nice and sticky so it works great on holding the rest of the food together.

What about red tunas(type of cactus)? They look like prickly pears sorta. I bought some today because it was really cheap and I wanna check first to see if its ok.

From what I found tuna is just another name for the prickly pear fruit.

Frankie and Spike turned their noses up to them the first time I tried but since then have eaten them. The rest of my crew has eaten them as well.

They had ones that were red. Is that because they are ripe? Should I wait until they are ripe to use them?

I believe they come in red and green, though my store has only ever had the red catus pears.
