BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I was prepping my guys dinner today and decided to take some pictures of what they look like before and after.

green prickly pear fruit, very juicy and sticky, does not stain like the purple/red variety

The before and after...I dice mine so I can control the size, not all my critters get the same size food.

Cactus pad, before despining..this isn't from a prickly pear cacti, but I forget what it is called...do not put these in a blender or chopper, they are extrememly sticky and can dull the blades.

Just scrape the spine away from the direction it is growing with a knife

Diced cacti pad, looks like prickly pear fruit but no seeds and the skin is edible, it is not hard.

Yes it is edible, the only reason why I mentioned the cactus pad because most assume that it is hard and tough, but the skin of the edible cactus are actually pretty soft. One of my torts only likes the skin of the pear fruit, but LittleFoot prefers the insides of it.

Thank you soooo much for this thread, it is really informative and helpful! Having never eaten or experienced cactus as a food, I can't wait to try it! Now I have to hunt down some cactus pad at my local CoOp. . .
