BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I brought my skink home last Thursday and he seems to be doing very well except for one thing. He hasn't pooped at all!! On Friday he had a little bit of diarrhea (which I am assuming is because of a change of diet; he was NOT getting ANY veggies from his previous caretakers) but hasn't pooped since. So, basically I would like to know how often the average skink poops. It is supposed to be everyday or just a few times a week? Thanks for your help!!

Ahh, but that's "normally".

Sounds like this guy has a sudden change in diet and environment, and that can certainly play a role in messing up a sknk's waste cycle. It's likely nothing to be concerned about -- keep feeding the new (much better) diet, and he'll come around. What sort of substrate are you using?

Have you dug through the substrate? Some of my guys hide theirs really well. How often are you feeding him? My guys don't poop everyday but I only feed them every 3-4 days.

I am using aspen as a substrate and I have dug through it but haven't found anything. He is eating all of his food everyday and is very active (we played outside today). I know that an animal's poop can tell you a lot about their health so I am still a bit concerned that he hasn't pooped but not totally worried yet. Thanks for ya'lls help and the first guy-not so helpful.

You can always try a warm bath. That sometimes helps lossen things up.

try stuffing him with food every day, then he has no choice but to poop, or you could try taking him outside get him moving around so his body can work faster, nowadays mine doesnt poop in his cage, he holds it in 'till i take him out which is everday in the summer

Good advice from Jenn. A warm bath may do the trick. That or a put on a nice clean shirt.

I had taken him outside to walk around the past couple of mornings and he walked around alot but didn't go potty...but fortunately the warm bath did the trick! Within about 15 seconds he went pee, dropped a sperm plug and that little white thing and two BIG (solid) poops! Thanks for eveyone's advice hopefully from now on he will go by himself.

Yay! Thats good news

Great! I can't imagine an impaction issue since you're using aspen shavings.

My guess is it was just a little stress from the move and a change in diet. Hopefully now that he's settled in, everything will be fine.

I know it sounds crazy, but it can be a huge relief in so many ways!

If his diet was so bad he may of digested almost everything with no waste to come out
