Hi All,
About a month ago i bout a bs and im assuming as it is a girl. Everything has been going well with temperatur and lighting but Im assuming its her time of month as something is sticking out her bottom which looks like a herpine (i cant spell). She has been dragging it around and it wont go back in. I put her in warm water to clean off the cocnut subtrate (the brown stuff in brick form). She keeps biting it and i dont know if this is good or back. Ive read the care sheet but nothing addresses this issue as far as i can see. On a note she has deficated a fair bit over the last 2 days, espically today. Any input would help as im worried sick.
Pics will follow soon.
thanks

I would take her to a vet...females do not have hemepenes, those are male sex organs.
Females also don't have "monthly cycles."
This sounds like a possible herniation, and needs medical attention.

If you have any PetSmarts around they might have an animal hospital within. I know our new store does. The ones inside PetSmarts are called Banfield Animal Hospitals by the way...might be closer and quicker.....

Take him to a vet...not much else you can do on your own.

I agree. You should take him to the vet.
Just curious, how old is he? Did the person you got him from recently try to breed him? I wonder if the previous owner injured your bluey trying to sex him...
Please let us know what you find out at the vet.
I hope everything turns out better than expected.

I know this is going to sound absurd, but would an elizabethan collar help in this case? I mean, would it prevent the fella from further injury or just *tick him off enough to cause more? I'd hate for him to bite his hemipene off before you can get him seen by a qualified Vet.
If there is no Emergency Vet available.. or within your acceptable driving distance... and you can't get there until tomorrow, at least try to prevent further injury tonight.
I dunno.... it's just a thought.
I hope he gets better for ya.

Have you noticed anything that look like sperm plugs in, on or near the poop?
I don't know if you have checked out that part of the care/info sheets, but there is a good picture of what sperm plugs look like, so you don't get them confused with urates.
There are also pics of male Bluey's "pinkish" parts, so you might be able to at least compare notes, and see if the anatomy sort of matches your Bluey's.
Good luck with your Skink, please keep us updated!

Oh, also, if you can avoid having the vet "pop" or probe, then do so. (That's apparently how they try and tell some lizards gender, and it can be invasive at best, harmful at worst, and its not very accurate with young Blueys anyways.) Good luck, does your vet work with Herps (reptiles) and/or exotics?

BanField vets in PetSmart are great for dogs and cats, but I wouldn't take a reptile there unless it was absolutely necessary. You can trust the Weiss on this one.

well i rushed him to a reptile vet an hr and a half away. turns out he ruptured his rectum. the vet cleaned him up and pushed it back in sealing the wound with sutures. he has been put on 4 different medications and by tuesday i have to see if he has passed any poo, if not i have to remove the sutures and hopefully it doesnt pop back out. if things dont go well then i may have to put him done but here is hoping i dont. thanks for the support folks. ill update you on tuesday on his status

Oh, poor little guy! His poor pooper! I wonder if it had to do with his diet being way too dry (crickets and mealworms, and no veggies to speak of!) and it caused these problems, like a giant hemmerhoid. I really really hope it'll be OK and that your vet knows reptiles/Blueys enough to save your poor skinky.
In the meantime, make sure he has lots of access to water and maybe feed him soft veggies and fruits (banana and soft mango) for a while so he doesn't "tear" himself out again? What did your vet recommend?

Vets from Banfield know just bare basics about reptiles, birds, and small animals, basically what they learn in vet school. I would avoid them if possible. The only reason why they do take in these types of animals is their contract with Petsmart and these are the only vets that Petsmart can use. They are great for dogs and cats though.
