BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

Hello this has to be the most sadest things ive seen , a female bobtail gave birth on the 28th on a cold morning .
1-Thats rare giving birth in winter .
2-she was wild in brumation.
3-Went into having the baby at 7am 5 degree,s .Well i noticed 5 crows going to town down the back of the centre on something in the grass. It wasn,t till they took flight up higher ,i seen it was a newborn bobtail, well 1 crow had his tail the other his tummy , and they droped him onto the road from about 1000 feet . He landed on his nose my wife went down to the mum and i fired a starter gun at them, they were on his back fighting over him .Well i chased them of him his nose is smashed ,his tail is raw and i cant imagine the pain he is in , look at the swelling around his nose
poor little guy born so cold and to be attacked by 5 crows. He looked alot worse Wonder why he was born right in winter >?

Note the dent on his nose and its very tender ,were tube feeding him every 8 hours with special love and care .




He was curled up like a potato chip with a mouth full of sand alot of blood from the nose from the fall , ive been told to put him to sleep but he walks ,runs licks water .And laps at the puree i think hes as comfortable as we can make him ,might have to make him a new nostril as the bones and crushed .

A little Miracle! I sure hope he makes it, DeadEye... I'll say a prayer for the little one. At least, he fell in the right place... he's in good, capable hands now

Yip thats for certain ive really taken to this guy seeing him falling .Not the ideal start to life . Thats why i got the pics to show his improvments Funda . Might need a ear nose & throat specialist How can i give him a new nose .?

I was going to name him Joe after Joe bugner the boxer his nose is all over his face .

big numbers raiding nests cracking eggs .
bit much seeing a pair of ducks go to all the bother of building a nest and months of lovin work ,just to get hammered ..

Nothin' at all wrong with shootin' a little crow now and then... good target practice, too.

I like the name, Joe. He looks like a little Joe, too. What a "bruiser" he'll be, heh? Heck! I'm already feeling attachment and I'm wayyy across the pond. Take good care of him

Aww poor baby, wonder why he was born now and if he has any siblings?
I saw a magpie throwing a baby duck on the road 3 weeks ago, stopped the car and brought him home but he died the next day

that is a very late birth,lucky little fella that u happened to save him,there tough little buggers,im sure he will pull through with your care mate,hes a gorgeous little fella to,darn those pesky crows,hows the mum stumper going,keep up the great work

Maybe this little guys isn't so unlucky. Afterall, he at least fell into your hands. Any other place, and he'd be crow food for sure. Good luck!

What a kind soul you are for rescuing him! They're pretty big for babies, aren't they? He's lucky to have you. Let us know what the vet says.

Poor little guy! I'm so glad you rescued him. He looks like such a little trooper! We know you'll give him the TLC he deserves.

I wish I could take him, I know what its like to have a bashed nose! It bloody hurts! (I got bashed by a soccerball when I was a kid and it knocked me out!)
The good thing is, baby/young critters seem to heal pretty fast, so I'm sending out the energy for this little guy to do so!
How's his Mum by the way? Were the crows picking at her too?
(I normally really like crows, as they're really smart and very individual, but I do hate it when they gang up and do the crappy bully behaviors. But its fun to watch them dive bomb silly humans in the city! )

My wife has got him lapping water , yep they are tough but 1 nostril is gone . Ill keep ya all updated

It happens,it is nature.Crows have to eat too,it would be different if it was cats but crows are native.Hope the little guy does well.

Yere but pike we have like penguins , roosters ,pelicans ,ducks all manner of sea, birds roo,s bandicoots ..And this has forced them to breed up big time going of there normal diet ,, and mobbing the centre that backs onto an a class reserve ...Sadly die back is in there . So if it was just in the bush thats nature , this has sick animals , rats comming for all the grain food , bread so its aloud them to thrive , and even seals - So the swoop in feed up there chicks on top grade food were daughters help mothers ect. Thats were were at now last month we were over run and bobtails were been eaten alive by rats .We got them gone now we have the permit to drop the crows back. Yes 1 on 1 is fair 6 onto 1 sucks.

Just perfect conditions with the amount of bird seed that is left over would fill a 55 gallon drum a day..sad fact he is doing alot better tonight now i told him its pay back time ..lol

Sadly even 20 roos had to be culled there in an electric fence and were breeding up. We have alot of joeys there now were dishing them out to friends to feed . But they like the bobtails will go hundreds of miles away to real nature not a reserve

Poor little guy. Good on you for getting him. Stupid crows. I have to say my favorite sight is watching a swarm of little birds chasing down a crow that's tried for their nest.
