I got 10 snails this morning

Postby megaabel » Thu Sep 06, 2007 7:12 am

Now... they are apart in a container w/water and plants. I read that I should wait for about 2 days to see if they die due to pesticides. So... do you guys think that by Sunday they'll be safe... or should I wait longer... if they survive pass Sunday sept 9th?

:HMMMM?

ps... I got some tiny, tiny ones and some... med size ones.

I read somewhere that if you get snails from your garden that you should freeze them for 2 months to kill any parasites they may have.

Jenn feeds snails and she goes through some sort of detoxing. Maybe she'll post her method later.

I assume you would let them defrost before you feed them but I know bluey's eat other things that are not alive so I would guess that wouldn't be a problem. Just mix them in with the rest of their food.

wow!! that's so cool!!! you breed them that's so rad!! I want to do that!! :)

my street sometimes really eartly in the morning looks somewhat like your back yard !! :) (full of snails... I usually save them from getting smashed in throw them back in the bushes.... for some reason early in the morning there are lots of them out there) :)

but since its dangerous to feed those wild caught ones...... I thought that waiting a few days and then using them as food should be ok. On the care sheet of this site it says that if you live in an urban area its not such a good idea... but I really want to feed him snails!! :) so I' guess I'll start maybe w/a little one......

Right now I have them in a container w/plants and water... so I will keep in in quarantine until next week... maybe Monday they will be ready to be eaten by my future son :) haha! :)

thnks!

You dont HAVE to feed them snails right away, you could always wait until he gets settled in.

I know I don't HAVE to feed him snails right away. I just wanted to know the actual time that it would take to make sure a snail is safe to use as food. I heard like 2 days... or so. ;)

All you have to do is put them in a can with a little water on the bottom and plants you found them on. If they're still alive after a few days, they're good to feed. :)

When we feed Lilly snails we quarantine them for 5 days or more while gutloading them with lots of fresh vegetables.
