white poo - not urate??

Hi guys,

We started feeding Lilly banana a week ago and found out this constipates her so we stopped. She has now finally done 3 massive poos, one which was normal, but the other two are pure white paste.

Is this urate or is something wrong? Undigested banana perhaps? It is the size of a big poo and is pasty in consistency.

Any help would be great!

Cheers guys :)

I'm sorry I don't have an answer but a picture would help.
I just think it is funny that new bluey owners are like mothers with newborn infants---always obsessing over what comes out the rear end!

Well my OH cleaned it up now, but I will take a pic if it happends again.

And I'm always this obsessive about my pets, they're my babies ;)

Yup ... gotta see the goods to be sure. As to the bananas since they can constipate humans it's no wonder they can do the same to blueys.

Although they usually poo a brown and white portion, sometimes it can just be the brown bit or just the white bit depending on their recent diet.

Yep, keep 'nanas for a treat. Blueys love them and mushy old ones are a good way to get a sick bluey eating, but their Ca:Ph is not great.

Pryce did this today! I was about to ask... Creepy. I was thinking it might have to do with his diet, for example the snails he ate. So long as it goes back to normal, I wont worry too much. Thanks for posting for me ^.^

yeah I know bananas make humans constipated too, but she was enjoying them so much. She's such a fussy eater, it drives me nuts! and it was also the only way she'd eat greens.

Guess I'll have to figure something else out again... grr.

Any ideas on what blueys love and can have on a daily basis?
She's not very fussed about papaya, blueberries, beetroot, green leaf veg.. she likes turkey and catfood

Fatal_S: What else did he eat? when Lilly was on snails her poo was the right colour but very mushy/soft. Now it's a good firm poo but white/grey, really odd.

Pryce's diet for the past few weeks has included chicken, green & yellow beans, romaine lettuce, & beets. He's also had several types of berries, and the snail (which ended up being many snails). Pryce is also on some preventive meds from the vet to kill off potential worms.
I haven't had Pryce for very long, so I'm still getting used to what his normal poo is. I'm just going to try not to worry unless he starts behaving or looking funny.

Tattoo loves raspberries and mango. Try those in place of the banana and see if that works. For greens she loves escarole and collard greens. I mix them in with some cat food and they dissapear every time. She also loves summer and pattypan (aka scallop) squash. Again I think mushing it around with some good smelling protein is wildly helpful. :goodluck:

Mine's favourite veggies are yellow squash, zucchini and button mushrooms.

The other thing you can try is to hand feed something they like, like a piece of boiled chicken or a worm or snail or piece of meat or a pinky etc, and then next mouthful when they're expecting more of the same, you give them a piece of veg instead.

Pryce has all his food in a mash due to my food chopper, and he eats it like a champ. If they're a treat like a snail he'll obviously eat that first, but he'll still go for his food after. His favorites so far seem to be snails, green beans, and blueberries.

Oh, and Pryce did another poo today, and it looked totally normal, so all's well in this world!

Did the poo/urate look something like one of these?

** WARNING: GRAPHIC POO PIC BELOW. SCROLL TO SEE. :ohyes: **

This happened after mine had a shot of fluids at the vet. He was also started on antibiotics that day. I don't know if it was the drugs, the extra fluids, or stress that caused it, but I can say that the urate returned to normal pretty fast on its own.

Image
This was caused by the antibiotics: undigested food due to the gut fauna dying off. This shows the progression from bad to worse. I gave probiotics (Acidophiliz+ and BeneBac), and the poos are finally looking normal again. It took about a month to improve to my satisfaction.

Sorry, hope those weren't too gross! I know they don't fit your situation, but maybe if you can compare the poo you saw to one of those it might help an expert to diagnose it.

My skink's favorite non-meat foods... For fruit, fig is a big hit and it's also high in calcium (bonus!). You can easily mash fig into a paste to spread the taste throughout the food. Veggies he seems to like best are butternut squash, chayote squash, and okra. There's no "favorite" green, but dandelion greens seem to be tolerated best. Can you get canned snails, pulverize them, and mix that in? I know the major beef with canned snails is that there's no shell for calcium, but they're STINKY and irresistible and I bet a piece of squash coated in snail funk would go down the hatch.

Pryce's poo looked nothing like those pictures. It was pure white, about the size of a nickel, and very smooth/paste looking. No bumps or chunks in it. Also no undigested food from him so far.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I've tried raspberries before but she just looked at me like what h do you think you're doing?
She also preferes chunks instead of mushed up food, so it's hard to mix her greens in with anything. the banana made the collard green stick to so she had to swallow it if she had banana.

We were going to try mango, since I eat it anyway, she can have some of mine. blueberries are ok, but she'll leave most of it.
mushrooms she liked first time around but has now gone of them.. She also wasn't fussed with squash

The reason she's such a fussball is because her previous owners fed her exclusively on cheap dogfood and pinkies. She was overweight when we got her..

Atm I'm giving her organic turkey breast, blueberries and collard greens. but the greens and berries often get left.

I think we will need to get some calcium powder as I worry she doesn't get enough of it in her diet. When we feed her snails she is very cunny and spits out every bit of shell so doesn't get calcium that way either.

Hijinks - like Fatal_S' skink, lilly's poo was a normal sized poo but completely white, like a thick paste. It almost reminded me of white clay, but softer. and like Pryce's poo, it had no chunks or undigested food.

Her poo's back to normal now though, perhaps it's one of those BTS things that happends once in a blue moon.
She seems happy enough, is active and eats normally, so hopefully it was just a one off.

Thank you for your food suggestions, I'll try figs and dandelion. We eat figs so that's a good sharing food (I hate wasting food) and I have 3 guinea pigs whom I give dandelion leaves, so getting some for Lil won't be a prob.

Thanks everyone! I will now treat you to a picture post :)

Braine'r, use a load of little snails mine spits out the large shell ones as well, or find the brown striped ones , they've got a softer shell and mine eats more of it
