Pictures of Apollo

Postby rubyslprgirl » Tue Sep 25, 2007 3:43 pm

Hey everyone! :shy: Sorry I have been MIA lately. Lots going on....including a new camera. I am just so excited I am beside myself. :ohyes: I have been loading it up with pictures of Apollo :lovestruck: and so I thought I would come on and show you all just how big he has gotten since last I posted. And I know how you all love pics.
We recently purchased a 65 gallon tank for him and now we don't see as much of him as we used to.....he loves it in there! He was shedding this week, so he looks really shiny, but he was Mr. Grumpy-pants beforehand and wouldn't come out of burrowing for anything. :D

I also bought a Bearded Dragon at the Tallahassee show 2 weekends ago...my husband and I named him Rocky. He is 8 weeks old and is currently residing in Apollo's old 20 gallon.

Its actually not reptibark that I am using, although it looks alot like it. I can't for the life of me remember what its called, but it is much softer than the reptibark.....almost as soft as the aspen shavings. Between the two, Apollo always feels like he's walking on a cloud, I imagine. :cloud9: He loves this new combo much better than just the reptibark I was using. I switched from that because the reptibark is very sharp (is that the right word? :) ) and whatnot and I have heard stories of it getting between the scales on their belly and I don't want that to happen to my baby. I am going to buy more of the new bedding next week, so i will post exactly what it is. :D

This guy is as Indo as it gets! Solid black forelegs, small body, small head, and dark peppery indo colors and markings. Merauke typically are clean, often gray-ish and lighter (evanescens, its subspecies label, means to fade) and he also has 4 parietal scales. The big Merauke typically have 5. There's pictures of these scales on the merauke page! He also has dark outlining on the top of his head; merauke almost always lack this, particularly 100% merauke specimens -- The merauke also usually have a bigger head almost resembling the IJ's, that's why Glenn Shea puts Irian Jaya in the same subspecies as Merauke (Tiliqua gigas evanescens), although I don't agree with that, and it's not official. Hope that helps! Merauke also have very checkered forelegs.
