BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

UV Guide UK has produced a detailed report on the new phosphors used in Reptisun compact fluorescents, which are known to cause photo-kerato-conjunctivitis. It includes case studies with photos, test results to explain why this is occurring, and responses from ZooMed and Zilla. (The first case they received regarding Zilla was fairly recent, so they are still in the information gathering process. Details are forthcoming.)

Hijinks, thank you for going through the trouble to let these folks know that Blueys are potentially being affected by this UVB lighting issue. You gave great information & photos for your case study, though I'm sorry poor Ping had to be the "guinea pig" for this!
Its an excellent learning experience for everybody who wants to take the best care of their animals possible, and this knowledge is invaluable.
Anyway, great stuff, I totally agree that this is very important information, and I'm glad little Ping is doing better!
And I have to thank Bluetongueskinks.net and the whole forum for all the info and experiences everybody posts, I appreciate you all!

Thanks, everyone... I do worry, as the report mentions, about long term skin damage and unknown side effects. I worry he would be a candidate for long term affliction, as he still has obvious scarring. Although Ping suffered a lot of damage, a couple others actually died from the exposure, so I feel thankful. I hope that his story may help save other reptiles.

It looks like even more dodgey goods coming outta China, I didnt think you needed the high end 8 and 10 for Blueys as they're partial baskers?
