Has anyone ever had this happen? Spontaneous crickets?

I have crickets breeding and hatching in the substrate of my BTS's aquarium. There are little tiny crickets everywhere and a few adults in there. I haven't bought crickets in about 3 weeks. I couldn't believe it when I heard them chirping.

Also.. should i let them in there or remove them?

well you might want to remove them, because they might bother your skink when asleep, try and get a seperate tank for them. also could you post some pics? i wanna see those li'l babies

Eeeeewwww, what are they eating!?! (Hopefully not your Skink!) You do clean the old/left over food out of your Bluey's enclosure, right?
Also, crickets are generally not thought of very highly for Bluey diets. They can carry pinworms, and they're smelly, and they can bite and gnaw on your guy if he doesn't eat them. Aside from all of that, they're really not worth anything in the nutrition department!
If you have another critter that'll eat 'em I'd get them outta there, and feed your Bluey silkworms or butterworms or hornworms instead.

To be honest I don't think it matters whether you remove them or not. BTS are big enough to not be bothered by tiny cricket mandibles, they will eat each other if no other food is available.

I wouldnt worry too much unless they bother you, I had a cricket rock{hollow resin stone with a hole in for entry/exit} they ended up breeding in it, and I found they used to wait til it was dark to venture out so didn't get eaten, they got out of hand in the end and had to go. there are better forms of live feeders as mentioned, I've had supper worms do a runner{sort of}and Blue'll hunt them down or wait until they show up as a beetle,then chomp it.

Nope never happened to me but i did find a black bug in my geckos tank. Could it have been a meal worm that turned into a bug?

Maybe, I'll get a photo of the super worm beetle {if I remember tonight} and post it here for you tomorrow, mine ignored them until I tricked him into eating a dead one, now he'll take them live,BONUS.

Back when I had my armadillos, I grew a colony of mealworms in the enclosure. When I'd go to remove the substrate, I'd find teeny, tiny worms in the bottom. yuk. I think the most disturbing part was catching two of the beetles procreating.

Genkid, what type of substrate are you using? Sand facilitates cricket breeding.

if it were me i would remove them. my friend has a bearded dragon, and its previous owner left crickets in the cage and the crickets actually ate the end of the lizard's tail!

Yep, this has happened to me. AND YES, REMOVE THEM ALL!!!! If you don't, your entire lizard environment will begin to smell like, literally, CRAP. Not to mention that it's like a plague in there, and whether or not the crickets are actually hurting the animal, it's still an incredible nuisance. It's unhealthy to leave them in there. If you have crickets just loose in there all the time and they are mating and having babies, it's likely he's not eating them. That means there's no way he's going to eat all of these which means, again, you'll have a horrible smelly mess to clean up.

I don't think it's even worth trying to save the baby crickets -- you can try, but I would go ahead and just do a deep clean of your terrarium. And in the future, don't throw in tons of crickets like in pet stores! It's so gross. Offer them to him when he's hungry, and let him hunt them down one at a time. If one burries itself, get it out!

Yer id say get rid of them. Iv never been succesful with cricket breeding but if they breed anything like wood cockroaches they will compleatly infest the tank.i had woodys for a while and my blue tongue lost interest in them and he just let them run around and they started breeding.This was just before it started gettin cold and pyro stopped eating so i didnt really look in there that much..big mistake.I moved his rock and about 15 ran out!! i was shocked that they could get so big in just a couple weeks.But thats not the end of it..when i put the rock back i brushed against the back of the tank on the background picture stack to the wall and all i herd was heaps of russeling.I had to take everything out and when i took the back off there was about 80 full grown cockroaches in there!i ended up haveing to vaccum them up they were running everywhere..it was terrible so yeah just take em out and make sure that he eats them and they dont run under a rock and excape him..plus those crickets can bite and they hurt somtimes

I have a similar problem in my beardie cage,lift a rock and they do a legger, its under control though, I lift up the rock and skewer the large adults with a cocktail stick and spike eats them off that like a kebab, wait a week and the next generations grown to replace them

Oh if we only had sound effects on the forum. The noise that came out of my mouth when I read the above was frightening. Eeeeewwww just doesn't seem to cut it.

Oh, but there are sound effects....both birds and crickets....the crickets are another hidden feature...
