Heh, if you do have a Tanimbar, then he will likely always be a bit feisty. They are the most aggressive species. And yep, they grow slow. Mine is still pretty small at 3 years old...

My yellow tanny is a pain to deal with, as he seems to hate everything to do with me, and likes making dives to leap from his tank whenever I open the door. He also barely eats, rarely is out of hiding, and huffs and puffs like he's trying to blow down the brick house. I still love him, and I hope he'll calm down in a bit, but he too can be called a skink-with-issues.

My silver tanny on the other hand is a darling to work with. She eats well, is coming out of hiding more and more, and other than being upset when being picked up, she's good to pet and hold. She'll even sit still on my hand or arm, while the yellow will make a dive to get away. I'm actually quite amused that the fiercest of the skinks, the silver tanny, is the calmest of all mine.

As for size, the tannies are both born in May, and are about 6 inches long. They're tiny compared to my northern, who is 14 inches at almost the same age. Tannies just seem to be a very small group. And if your worried about being too thin, compare the body to the size of the head, it should look fairly in-proportion. Wocket (silver) it more tubby, he looks somewhat round, but Trikks (yellow) looks more skinny, but not underfed. My northern has about the same body shape as Trikks.

How often does he not eat? If it's very often, maybe change to feeding every other day? If it's a rarity, is he about to shed?

im very lucky in that he adores me so rearly huffs at me at all and is quite happy to just sit on me or climb all over. speed is only an issue on the sofa where upon this slow `creature that barely moves is replaced by a world class sprinter lol when i put him in his pen on the floor he normally just sits there. im going to do that every night now to make sure he gets exercise, as much as he can anyway being that he is a quivering ball of OMG!. lol

fatel_s....that sounds very much like loki. your yellow one is about month older than mine and prob about half an inch bigger. i think i started to worry when i saw pics of tats bts who is so much bigger yet younger. at least he wont outgrow his 2 foot viv anytime soon.

food wise he has always been a fussy eater, and i normally only offer food evey other day anyway. he did shed earlier in the week which i think has thrown it all off wack. i picked him up and thought his head looked darker and then noticed he was shedding so used a damp paer towl to get the shed off from his tail and feet (had problems in the past) i got him to eat a little bit of meat last night. will offer banana and cabbage greens blended up tomorrow. may not offer raw tomato again though as last night after he went to poo i picked him up and noticed something sticking out of his vent. i tugged at it and more came out. at first i was worried it was a hernia type situation but then i recognise it. it was tomato skin all folded up. was about 2 cm long and needed pulling out by hand. im so glad he was in his pen when he did that one or it could have become a problem for him, being stuck.

the huffing and puffing is cute. he is a funny little so and so. if the cat comes over to the pen, or he runs across my bed and bumps into the cat like last night (smokey was quite offended that this creature dared to bump into her foot at speed) he puffs up a bit but looks more like silent hyperventalating. when a gecko walks past the tank or he sees me holding one he runs at the glass like a little bull dog and makes quite a lot of noise. dont know if its coz the geckos are his size.

I got Pryce a month before I got the 2 tannies, and while I was expecting a slight size difference, I have to say my reaction was probably very funny. I picked up the shipping bags and paniced because they were too light to hold a skink! Pryce is heavy and huge, these guys are tiny and weigh next to nothing. I still keep being amazed at how small and cute they are, and how easy they are to hold in one hand.

I wouldn't trust either of the 2 little ones to be put down anywhere, they'd dissapear in an instant. They are fast little buggers, and great at escaping any pens I make. They're also small and cowardly, so they find a hide and stay in it, whereas Pryce will come out to explore.

Trikks is my fussy eater, the other 2 are great. However, Trikks was in shed when he was shipped, and a lot of it didn't come off right. He needed some soaking and a bit of TLC on the scales on his head and around his mouth. This probably scared him a bit considering he'd only been home for a week. However, I also think he's just trying to annoy me, so I'll keep cuddling him, and one day he'll give in. Yesterday I modified his tank so he can't get into an annoying little crevice anymore, so maybe life will get easier with him.

I agree that the huffing is adorable, I love talking to them and watching them puff up to look big. Oh, and Wocket also has a green tint, especially on his sides. I think the green is a stage on his way to getting silver/white. Trikks is a deep orange color, so I'm really excited to see how he turns out when he gets older ^.^ Oh, and Trikks got so upset at seeing Pryce in my other hand, he made a lunge to attack, even though he was securely a foot away. Stupid, adorable little lizard. I love talking tannies.

i found a pen in my local pet shop. i think its for rabbits or something. it can be made quite big but i normally fold it so its just a square, about a foot and a half each side.

loki is feeling brave and exploring the pen. the cat just came over and was trying to touch him through the bars and he was trying to bite any bit of furry paw that came between the gaps lol

im waiting for her to decide to climb in the pen, which she just started to do and got told off for.

skink tv is great. the cat hasnt been this focused in years
