BLUE TONGUE SKINKS

I've been wondering how moist should i be keeping Izzy's bedding right now i'd say it's damp like if you dig in it not too much sticks to your hand.Just wondering if thats plenty moist or if i should wey it down some more?????

Adding water can encourage bacteria growth which is bad for your skink. I would not add any water.

My substrate is totally dry. If I think a skink needs the extra humidty, then I add a humid hide. That's mostly just a sheeding time though and even then it's only for a couple of my skinks.

i'm using coco soft i just swithed to it i like the look. since it naturally resists bacteria growth i thought it would be a good thing to keep it moist Izzy really seems to like it since putting it in.He's also always burrowing i it.i was wonder about it cuz i'm not sure how humid it should be for him??

I try to keep Tattoo's enclosure around 40% humidity. Usually this can be accomplished by adjusting the size of your water dish and or the amount of water you have in it. You can get a digital hygrometer to read your humidity so you don't have to guess how humid your skinks environment is. I have the one shown at the link below:

As long as you have a warm basking spot, moist is fine, Irian Jaya are from the tropics. However, cold and moist is not fine. What sort of basking spot do you have?

i keep the basking spot at 97deg F and it's about 85 in the middle and 75 at the cool end over the total 4 foot length. i use i piece of slate that izzy can fit al of his self on except like 3" of his tail

Humid, damp air is fine, like in the tropics, either from a water bowl or in a humidity box. But constant damp substrate/bedding where they live and sleep is a good invitation to respiriratory infections and scale rot.

Yes I thought that humid air to 30 or 40% was ok, but no need for damp substrate, you dont want your skinky to develope trench foot
