Hillsboro Show

Postby Dragontears » Sat Oct 06, 2007 12:00 pm

I guess this doesn't really need it's own thread, but I wasn't sure where else to post it...

The Hillsboro, Oregon show this year was kind of lame. There were at least 10 normal vendors that didn't show up so there were no camels, no primates, no pigeons and a lot less spiders than normal (only one tarantula vendor showed up). There were a couple neat blueys though.

This guy was selling for $85. I didn't handle him/her to see what the temperment was like, but he/she was pretty:

These two were selling as "rescues" and were going for $35. They were in decent shape for being rescues, but still had a few issues. One had dropped the end of its tail and they both had retained shed on their toes, but for $35 they were hard to pass up!

This guy was so dark! If I had more room, I would have come home with him:

This guy was cute too, but not nearly as fun as the dark one:

and of course, I had to take a picture of a spider:

I WILL own one of these someday. They were selling for $175 for a 2inch sling. So tempting, as that is a good price for that size, but I resisted and bought another ornamental species instead.

handlable? kinda. They are fast when they want to be and that particular genus is medically significant, so getting bitten wouldn't be a good idea...HOWEVER...that blue species is one of the more mellow in the genus, so as long as the handler is cofident and doesn't make any weird movements, the spider is fine.

I got a P. rufilata and a P. ornata. I already have a 7inch female P. regalis. Pokies and Avics are definitely my favorite genera. (genuses? :oi: )

me too! All his (the vendor) blueys were reasonably priced and had nice markings/coloration. He even had them in little tubs and tanks with lights which was a good sign as well.

I actually did handle that IJ Renee, and it had some scary stuff happening with its scales. I'm not sure how to describe it, but it had a similar look to when my first skink had his scale infection. Relatively friendly, but I don't think it was healthy. That black indo was gorgeous though! Not too handleable, but pretty!

good to know. The IJ was half buried so I didnt' mess with it. I was assuming the gigas weren't too friendly, but they were so adorable.

I'm surprised you could resist Mr. Darko.....Martin probably just gently reminded you of your mysterious gigas ailment. :edward:
