is pup sick?

Postby zennygirl » Fri Aug 12, 2005 8:00 pm

okay, pup hasn't really eaten in well over a week. he has taken a bite here and there but not eaten a normal meal. he hasn't pooped either but passing urates and pee and other gunk like normal. he's acting the same, is fairly active and alert.
i had him at work with me for a bit today and he discovered a pile of urchins for sale and he immediately chomped one down chewing up part of a crunchy shell and he looked really happy about it. i don't think it's treated with chemicals or anything, i licked it and it didn't taste like anything other than ocean.
anyway, i'm getting a little concerned he could be impacted because of the whole pearlite discussion on the other thread. if you missed that, i think he could have ingested pearlite because it often spills in my room out of plants but i always try to clean it up right away.
so do you think i should worry or no? pup is my little baby boy and i would die if anything happened to him :cry2:

If you truly see that he is acting out of the ordinary, I'd take him to the vet soon. Whatever you decide to do, good luck!

If you have easy access to a vet, it wouldn't be a bad idea to take him in....but I don't know how others feel about it. I took 3 of mine to the vet the other day. But, if Pup's acting fine then you could give it some more time....maybe he's just going through a phase.

okay, i didn't lick it, but this lady did. i didn't feel like going through the trouble to explain who this other person was and why she licked it for me, but she's an artist that sells her work at my store, and she saw that i was worried about pup eating it, so she licked it for me. which i thought was pretty nice of her.

Taking him to the vet can't hurt. Checkups are always a good thing. But also keep in mind that many lizards are able to go weeks without eating and not show any negative effects, so I wouldn't panic. Would go to Dr. Harcewicz here in Berkeley or someone in SF?

Harcewicz seems pretty good with anatomy/diseases etc. Take any diet information he gives you with a grain of salt, though. He told me to feed my beardie carrots, corn, and lentils . He also did say dark leafy greens, though, so he was about half right.

Sure, if you'll have time to hang out :) I'd also love to meet the famous pupster.

Frankie went months this spring without eating more then a few bites once a week, if she even at that much. She also didn't poop much, just little turds every so often. She stayed nice and plump and acted totally normal. Then all of a sudden she started chowing down and has been clearning her plate all summer. So they can go awhile without eating. But if you are really worried I would take him.

Interesting...Phantom hasn't been eating much at all lately either...but he doesn't seem sick or anything...he poops like once every two weeks.... but it kind of makes sense because he doesn't eat...he's not getting skinny though.....maybe he knows it's winter in his home land???????

Jenn, do you know approximately how long in between poops Frankie would go???

I think probably about every two weeks or so and they weren't very big. It's a little harder to tell with Frankie because even now her poops are small and she buries them so some times I can't tell if it's newer or I missed it spot cleaning. Spike on the other hand leave me huge poops right out in the open pretty much every day.

Zen, I say if he's acting normal then maybe he's just watching his figure for the ladies. But if you are worried than a vet visit might help you feel more at ease and certainly wouldn't hurt. It's a tough call, I know. We hate to think of anything being wrong with them.

OMG! Jenn that is so crazy! Phantom and Frankie sound SOOO much alike!! Silly things, random poop once in awhile a very difficult to find unless he does it ON ME!

And Azure seems to be JUST like his brother! A big poop very easy to see waiting for me EVERYDAY! lmao!!!

We should get our blueys together someday! I bet they'd like eachother! :ohyes:

I wish everyone lived closer. It's a lot of fun being able to have skinks dates with Ann and having someone who actually get's my skink addiction.

Have you measured Azure yet?

I'm not sure if you are using cat food or not but Frankie started eating really well when I started mixing it with her veggies/greens instead of meat.
