I'd still say Merauke. For fun, how many temporal scales? 4 or 5?

Ok, new at this, but what does "ssp" mean? I know tiliqua is the scientific name. Help out a nebie here guys, lol! thanks, Marine

Actuallly the proper annotation would be spp. with 2 p's and this denotes the word "species" in the plural form. If it was written as sp. it would signify a single member of a species.

Well, since you brought it up . . .

sp. = species, singular

spp. = species, plural

Yep! I see 5. It is written (and seems to be for the most part, pretty accurate) that the Merauke have usually 5, and the Indo has usually 4. So, usually the gigas from the far west are the merauke with 5 temp scales, and the gigas from the far east are the indos with typically 4. Then you have every gigas in between that display traits of both. In these areas, the scale count could go either way and it can get difficult to identify 100%.

Cool! So most likely he's/she's a merauke! Is there anything special or extra I should be doing for him?
He's getting a 20gal long tank this weekend too! Already getting cramped in the 10gal, LOL, just have to move the 20gal long out of my snake room and into dining room(which is really our lizard/turtle/newt room, LOL), we don't have a dining table, too many cages! And the snake room is our spare bedroom! all the snake cages but our 210gal tank with 8ft redtail is in the snake room, the redtail is in the living room. Oh and Tigger weighs 4.9g-1 g up from last week! yea! LOL! thanks, Marine

Well, I had every intention of leaving it alone, but since Zach had to go and open his big hairy mouth . . . :TQlaughing@zach:

I was correcting the second part of Jeff66's statement. "sp." means a single species, not a single individual within a species.
