Is butternut pumpkin the same thing as butternut squash???

I know pumpkin is in the squash family but is it the same thing???

NOTE : I'm not talking about Jap pumpkin or whatever it's called - I'm talking about butternut pumpkin!!!

Also what the heck are goitrogens??? are they good or bad?

They are the same - in the US we call it butternut squash and in Oz you guys call it Butternut Pumpkin. This site gives some examples of the different terms used in Oz and the US http://www.nursingbaby.com/pumpkin/pumpkin.htm

Goitrogens are bad - they supress thyroid function and interfere with the iodine absorption by the thyroid gland.

I don't know much about veggies, I only know the ordinary average garden variety ones, not the fancy schmancy trendy imported ones (but personally I hate them all! Veggies are evil..Evil I tells ya!) but with the exception of obvious distinctive flavoured ones like onions or chillies, there isn't many you can't try if you vary your diet enough. Like, even though some are worse than others, if you only feed them occasionally, or with something to balance the bad stuff out, then there's not many that aren't worth trying. I'd sooner give a more varied diet than one that is the same all the time in case they get sick of it, or something's seasonal and so not always available or they become picky eaters.

Mine like a mix of mushies, zucchini, squash, tomato, potato, pumpkin, okra (that was a weird one), broccoli, peas, beans etc. You know, just ordinary every day veggies that are always available everywhere or you could grow yourself no probs.

For fruit they like banana, mango, berries, mandarins, pears, plums - generally the more wet, juicy fruits.

Meatwise, they like lamb and chicken based dog food but not beef, whiskas jellymeat catfood, any type of raw meat, pinkies, and any grub that is found in the garden.

Of course, they don't get all of that in one sitting, but 4 or 5 things each meal.

Aren't yours kipping at the moment, Luke? Woulda thought they'd be fast asleep by now and food would be the last thing on their minds!

of the veggies, the dandelion would be the only one i would feed on a regular basis, or in large quantities. Use the cabbage and broccoli in only small amounts.

I kept them awake - a few are asleep but some are up and basking.

The reason I ask that Q - is cuz i fed that mix to them and witnessed chopper throw up afterwards - then he ate it again!

I'm sure they are ok now - Micro came in to to have a chow down on choppers throw up too - yummy!

The thin eastern has been munching pinkies and had some of this mix last night too which was awesome!

ohhh yeah - there was a small amount of minced beef in there too. I made some little mince and rice balls a while ago for them and whacked a couple in.

all natural, no preservatives, food coloring, added sugars, etc are okay. I'd personally only us it in a pinch to help bind food together for picky eaters. Fresh is always best.

Actually even better - puree fresh fruit to make an even healthier food binder/paste.....make your own baby food!

I'm assuming the cat food is meat based so that's a lot of meat/protein and no greens or fruits and very little vegetables. Without looking it up it also sounds like a low calcium, high phosporous meal.

ok. tried feeding him chicken, he took it out of my fingers when i offered it by hand, then tried to put him closer to his dish with the chicken, catfood, tomatoe < wasa just trying, will give more balanced meal this week > he wont take any chicken from the dish, just kept on licking.. and licking.. then offered it again by had he took it.. IM REALLY WORRIED GUYS THAT HE WILL ONLY EAT RIGHT OUT OF MY HANDS.
I CHEACKED the food tomight and it seems it wasnt touched at all. HELP!

is it temps?

Sounds to me like he just might be doing a good job of training you - holding out for what he wants and how he wants it.

I've found grounding the chicken in the little chopper just like I do the veggies gives it more of a cat food like feel and my guys have a harder time picking out the veggies and like it more.

i gave him bananas ( mashed), scrambled eggs, cat food and chicken this morning, he liked the banana and chicken but cant seem to bite,, he just keeps on licking and licking the food not really consuming it, shall i blend everything like a puree?
