My cage awaits.

Postby russman » Wed Jun 27, 2007 5:29 pm

Hey folks, I've finished (or nearly) the cage I've been slowly working on for the last month or so. I'll post some pics, so take a look and give suggestions for making it better, or just enjoy the view. Now I just need a baby to put inside!!!!

A view of the cage at whole.

These locking latches only turn if the key is in them. Otherwise, always locked.

A little drawer space on the bottom. This is a converted oak dresser.

That looks great!!! I'd love something like that but am way to nervous about having lights inside my cages.

That was the "nearly" part about being finished. I still have to make a wire screen to go over the heat lamp, and possibly a cage around the other light.

Wow, that looks great! I like the way you put glass in the top too.

We're headed up your way this weekend, going to look online and see if there are any shows going on around Pittsburgh.

We'll be on a cruise that weekend. Maybe I can catch the one in August.

It looks great! I've been keeping my eye out for an appropriate piece of furniture that I can transform into a Bluey, Uro and Beardie piece...

...either that, or build it all from scratch. Which is cool, cuz then I can play with all my power tools and get my hubby to assist. :D

Only one small remark, you may loose half your UV out of the top with it fixed like that, could you use an angled lamp holder to shine it down wards more, I'd seal in the sky light to make a wicked coffee table, very nice , ohh dont loose the keys mate.

Thanks for all the compliments!

Leigh- I may put some reflector material down on top of the glass underneath a lamp or something.. the lamp would be for decoration. Also, I have four keys, and I can get more if I need. Don't worry ;)

Or maybe I could give him one and then charge him $20 bucks when he swallows it. Stinkin landlords!

That's a beautiful cage. I love the furniture type caging that gets animals out on display.

Be sure to check the temps with it powered up for a while before you put your skink in though - wood is a pretty good insulator and your vents seem pretty small - it may not need much of a heat lamp to get fairly hot.

I'd suggest shielding the UV light so it's not shining in your eyes when you look down into the cage. You might also want to consider putting the UV light on the heat lamp side, since they normally get UV when they bask, and it will enhance the temperature gradient.
