the skink i am getting from zach (i hope early next week) is "my daughter's"... so... well, that explains the "girly" atmosphere of the tank.

anyway, here it is! suggestions welcome!

It's looking excellent!

The reflector on top seems a little small; hence I'm only assuming the bulb in it is a bit small too. What are your temperatures on the basking rock like? I'm not sure if you mentioned if you got a temp-gun or not...

Just curious. Otherwise it looks great. Yes, I hope the new skink is a girl too with all those foofy flowers! :hehe:

Your tank is so colorful and exciting that my kids are going to force me to head back to Garden Ridge for more flowers and greenery. Your little guy will have plenty of hides and things to climb. Lucky little skinky! Our babies will be siblings! :ohyes:

i was concerned with heat for a while. it seemed to not be getting hot enough. however, i repositioned it the temp on the surface of the rock is right at 96 degrees. i wlll get a bigger one later anyway.

Even if your skink is a dude, they are manly enough to handle flowers in their tank

That looks like a nice set up there, only point to make is that you are wasting most of the usable UV , can you not put it horizontally along the tank facing down?also will your kids get upset when baby skink does a number on the decor?

well, the tank is 22" tall, which, if i understand, would make the UVB useless (being at least 16" away from the highest point). maybe i misunderstand...

i thought about putting it at the bottom of the tank, but can't remember why i decided against it.

over the years, i've developed a talent at turning what might seem to my daughter to be a disaster into an interesting and funny situation. if wee come home and the skink had completely rearranged, i'll simply help her to form an idea in her mind of "how funny it must've looked to see the skink moving everything around!"

and she'll laugh and we'll be ok.

advice on the UVB?

UVB can burn the eyes if its too close also, so keep an eye out for that.

Is it possible to hang/suspend it from the top on jack chain or cable, another option is to silicone the brackets to the glass and have an angled reflector, this way you can get the perfect height

Those tube-style UV lamps are tough to work with when a hood isn't containing them.
