Speaking of which, Zach, why don't you get a new one? You keep bouncing between your oldies.

:yes!:
I'm thinking my skink has grown into something of a teen heartthrob, 'cause he's pretty good at posing.

------

I found another US store that sells that Arcadia bulb:

http://www.beanfarm.com/store/agora.cgi ... p_id=19023

$10 less than drsfostersmith.com! I bought it. Guess we'll see.

And the ZooMed bulb? 49.99 at Petco. But check this note from ZooMed customer service:

Amanda,

We are sorry to hear of the inconvenience with the bulb. Some manuals were missing from the packages.

We normally don’t issue refunds but given the circumstances we will go ahead and issue this. Please send the bulb and a copy of your receipt directly to us. Our address is listed below. Please include a brief note with your address and telephone number as well as a quick summary of the situation (or a copy of this email). Please be advised that there will be no refunds issued without a receipt. Please allow 6 to 10 weeks for processing.

If you would like us to exchange it for a ReptiSun 5.0 I can certainly do that as well. Please let me know if you’d like to do this.

"The inconvenience" refers to my poor skink's SCORCHED FACE. Thanks but no thanks regarding the replacement bulb, guys. You owe me 49.99. :heated:
Maybe I got a defective bulb, since others have had success with it. Maybe it wouldn't have happened had I followed the instructions that I never saw. I'm just too terrified of it now to continue with it at all. Thanks for all the support. :)

Which is why he has a new one, suddenly? We see whom influences whom.

I leave my basking light on for 12 hours in the summer, with the basking light on right in the middle for 8 in tandem.

I don't think it's a huge deal to be honest, but the sun wouldn't be giving off penetrative UV for the entire day; the main hours of powerful UV sunlight are around 10-2 and then it heats up in the afternoon, but he UV is not powerful. So, I've experimented with lights, and have minimized the basking area temperatures as the day goes on, then dim it down quite a bit as evening hits. UV I would calculate similarly.

So, just an update. Ping's "problem eye", the left one, the one labeled "not so good" in an earlier photo, is still kind of stiff when he tries to close it. I can see a bit of tough loose skin beginning to come off, just as it did before when things were very bad. So it will be at least one more shed before he is totally healed. I submitted my story and photos to Frances from uvguide.co.uk, and found out she is already working on a write up for the site regarding these bulbs and the new phosphors. The Arcadia compact, she says, should be safe to use as they have the same phosphors as their tubes (unlike Reptisun compacts). I'll post a link to this write up when it's sent to me.

Hijinks, that site is a brilliant source of info, I cant wait for the outcome. You might just get the damadged skin around the eye come off before the next due shed, are you bathing it in water daily, or just letting it take its course?

It's very stiff and it's stuck fast to his eye right now. So I am hesitant to interfere, but I am providing a humid hide for him.

Well, here it is today with the bit of skin:

Image

That blurry thing on his mouth is an unfortunate phoenix worm. :P

Looking at his eyes so closely every day, I noticed another difference between the right and left one. The left pupil in particular seems to have an irregular shape, more like a cat's eye. Is this normal or could it be indicative of even more damage?! :sorry:

Look closely... Maybe it's slightly apparent in the right one, but it's always prominent in the left one.

Rollie's pupils are not perfectly round either; nothing to worry about.
