How strong is your light?

Postby Leigh » Mon Aug 06, 2007 5:26 am

Well, we had a very sunny day yesterday so I spent the best part of it sunbatheing :lounge: , I thought about getting Blue out for a stroll, so went into the house to see if he wanted to come out, I kept my shades on just because.., when I got to the tank he was still shedding and rather grumpy, so no day out for him.I had to lift my shades to see in the tank properly :shades: , it was then I realised just how crap the light we supply IS.Has anyone tried this for themselves,if so what was your conclusion?

Are you positive that your light source inside is really crappy or is it just crappy in comparison to the magnificent size and power of the SUN? The light in the bluey tank is tiny in comparison and shining in a very compact space vs. the SUN.

I'm just speculating here. There could be something to this either way, actually. It would be good to know since I have two desert dwellers here... under lights... and a third on the way.

Very interesting... :chin:

Yes , it was the comparison against the sun I was refering too, I just wondered if anyone else thought the same, if you try it, you'll see what I mean. I've noticed my beardy looks more depressed about coming in out of the sun than Blue, who just wants to roam about.

If the clouds ever go away today, I'll try it... or whenever it's sunny again (so much for "Sunny California" eh?)

How do you keep your Beardie from running off when he's outside? My Hugo is still young, about 15" total length, and gets bored of my lap really quick... SHOT! ..there he goes! :D I have to chase him all over... little stinker! I've considered a lead, but they seem to be controversial and I don't want to harm my little guy any further. (He was a rescue.)

i have a similar light (probably) to the one you are refering to, i find that when i pu a new bulb in it shines really good for about 2 months then it just get wierd on me...

i know there meant to last for ages but recenlty i had my light (the actual bulb) and my heater in my turtle tank, the light blew like a regular light would but the heater blew up, like shards of glass is all that remaineed in the heater holdy thingiy...

that was a scary 4 oclock wake up call, big flash and thn smoke filling my room (shudders) the first thing i did was get borris (my snake necked turtle) out of the tank and put him on my bed next to me, wasnt letting him out of my sight until i got the new light and heater installed...

into the bath he went with the tetras lol, i wasnt too worried about the tetras cause they have way outlived a tetras expectancy, especially living with psychotic turtles lol....

Well to be honest I do the same as you, she'll sit there on my lap for 20 mins or so then a couple of swift looks around and she's off, I let her get so far, then get her before she goes into the shrubs, this gets repeated a few times over the course of a couple of hours until she wont sit still anymore, then I put her back inside, I'm going to make a cage on wheels to let have more un-watched time out side.

bluetonguemad Glad you didnt get any casualties mate
