What time of day ?

Postby Dex » Mon Aug 06, 2007 5:55 pm

Hi guy's, just wonderin what time of day you feed you're blueys ? ... i've still not got any, cause i've just started a new job and i'm on shift work... some day's i start at 6.15 am and others early afternoon.

Would feeding later in the afternoon be a problem providing that they have time to digest the food ?

All thoughts and comments welcome :)

i usually feed inthe early afternoon, around 2pm, but with my new work schedule it is going to be pushed back to about 4pm....his lights stay on till 8 so there shouldn't be any problems with digestion.

I switch up when I feed my guys. Sometimes it's first thing in the morning, sometime midafternoon and other times early evenings. Sometimes this is because of my schedule and other times it's because with 8 blueys you have different times that they like to eat. By switching it up they all get what they need at some point. The important thing is to make sure the lights are on for a few hours after they eat so they can use the heat to digest.

I usually feed "morning" (which for me is like 10-1030AM) or afternoon. I try to stay away from evening feedings, just because my guys tend to start dozing off around 6-ish and aren't in the mood to eat.

I usually put her breakfast in her tank around 7 or 8 am. She doesn't get to it until 9 or 10 but that's fine because it's from the fridge and I'd feel better if it has time to warm up a little anyway.

I put her second meal in around 2 or 3pm. Up until today, she usually didn't eat it but today she chowed down! I was surprised. lol

I usually feed mine before I go to work, and its still dark in the tank, like mom22wins is its fridge cold, so has a chance to warm before he gets there, if not its late afternoon when I get home, I think he likes to lick the cool tomatoes, the only time he two meals a day is if I chuck some snails in on an evening, funny that no matter when he's eaten, the snails always get chomped.

Dont think feeding your bluey twice in one day is a good idea.
You feed them once and put enough to last them until you feed them again..

I agree.. I would think they would be more likely to be good eaters if they were hungry. And feeding them twice is going to give them a full belly 24/7 thus decreasing their zest for eating.

Really? From what I've been reading on the forum, and I believe what Zach had been doing, is feed the babies twice a day and the adults once every few days... Please tell me if this is wrong... Maybe it was only a temporary thing that Zach did for the babies when they were just born... Or maybe I'm crazy...

feeding time

Postby aggiegirl » Thu Aug 09, 2007 7:28 am

Pele', my one year old, does not stir until noonish.
Charlotte, my one month old, is occasionally up by 8am and clearly looking for food. I often give her a small treat of fruit to encourage her to come out and be held.
Charlotte tends to be a grazer who eats in several visits and Pele' is a glutton who consumes his whole meal at once. Diane, now that I think of it, he used to feed like Charlotte does now (grazing, that is!)
I feed them in early afternoon on days when they both eat. I may feed Charlotte earlier if it is just her day to eat. I feed her once a day. Whenever I feed, I just make sure that I take out the food several hours before their lights go off.

I always fed my babies once a day. They sometimes recieved a treat of fruit or live food in addition to their daily feeding. I give my adults treats from time to time as well.

Sapphira is out looking at 7 am for food! LOL Her little head comes out and she starts watching me. I feed her early, she goes right to it. Now at a year I am feeding every other day, she is getting a bit fat though so I may need to slow to every three days! lOL

Yep, once per day! And sometimes they start ballooning up so much you may need to switch to every other day....like GORDO.

when Boris first came its was everyday, in the morning.
I somehow noticed that he is picking up weight and decided to have him on a diet once or twice a week.. meaning that id go for every other day interval.. but sometimes its just like a routine, feeding and prepearing his food early am. cant wait to try to fee him superworms and crix!

one thing tonigt, first time i saw Boris feeding at night its around 740pm and saw him munching down papayas and chickens! I hope his appetite will just grow and grow..

:D :) 8)
