the tittle says a lot but i thought i would give an update. my skink is home finally, he was gone a week getting treated for mites. before he left he had tried dislocating one of my finger, and at the store he gave the guy the bite of his life. i was standing right there, it was quite intimidating, not to mention he broke skin. since i've had him back he hasn't tried biting or even to make a mean face. i got to actually hold him today, for like 20 minutes. i think my plan is to hold him for that long every day, we'll see how the taming goes. i figured out that he loves to be rubbed on and behind his ears. he turns his head into your finger, kind of like a cat. he still pretty much hides all the time, and if he's out and someone walks into the room he runs to hide. still no name, i haven't really gotten to know him, it will come to me eventually.

an infected reptile cannot be "gauranteed" mite free after one week of treatment, mites can pop up anytime within the next 2 or 3 months, just when you think there gone, i recomend you keep up treatment for mites for the next month at least, even if you cant see any, and clean your cage at least twice a week, keep caging to a minmum, newspaper substrate, both as flooring and scrunched up for hiding under, and a water bowl and thats it, you definatly ARE NOT in the clear yet.

also did you make sure you cleaned out the enclosure you had your bluey in previously to getting it treated for mites, i bet my left one theres mite eggs in your enclosure, even if you have cleaned it, clean it, and clean it again, just to be sure, as they dont just live on the reptile but also within the enclosure and cage furnishings, thats why just newspaper for substrate for at least a month.

I too have to agree with cleaning the cage thoroughly again and the newspaper substrate. Mine didn't have mites, but he had pin and hookworms, and my vet said the eggs are "sticky". So I Hot soap and watered the cage 3 times/week, changed the newspaper every simgle day, and Chuff got daily baths with biodegradable dish soap and warm water in the sink for at least 10 minutes. ( he hated the bath, but it sure helped him with his last shed!)
Also, you may want to vaccuum/sweep and wash all bedding/linens in the area.
But I'm very glad to hear your guy is not as grumpy! I hope he stays mite free forever more, and you guys can get down to the business of being buddies!

And I'll bet my right one I agree -- mites can be tricky and pesky -- hit them where it hurts and finish the job.

i will continue with treatment. YES--i cleaned the enclosure very well. i had it sitting full of a vinegar (vinegar kills everytng!) solution for like 3 hours before scrubbing it down and i use the mite spray twice in one cleaning, before and after.
