Sometimes when Sophie is out and exploring i notice spit bubbles:rofl: . Is that normal?

is she breathing heavily too? does she do this after a bath?
could be Respiratory Infection.

She wasn't breathing heavily.I am trying aspen but i was using bed a beast. I usually notice it when she is looking around and her tongues is flicking in and out. I didn't notice it after a bath.

Bubbles arn't good, what is your basking temperature?

I know that in the middle of the tank it is about 74-75. The basking I'm guessing is around 80. The cool side a little cooler then the middle. Anything wrong? :cry:

You want that basking spot up to 100. What bulb wattage are you using?

It is a 75 watt.

Basking spot is only 80F? You want it 100 ideal. Do you have a proper thermometer to measure the temps?

75 on a 40B won't cut it, I would go for a 150, but its imperative you find out exactly what the basking temp is.

Does she only do it when there's lots of tongue action, or all the time?

If it's tongue related, I know other people on here have mentioned in the past that theirs get bubbly too when there's a lotta tongue going.

Jubby bubbles if you hold a snail just out of reach and tease him with it.

Go to tempgun.com, you can get a great thermo for like $25 to $30, and it'll give you exact temps for everything, is your basking spot warm to the touch?

Reguardless of bubbles, its important to get the basking spot to at LEAST 90.

Its usually with tongue action and she is on the move to check things out. I haven't seen it any other time.

Yeah I agree that your hot spot needs to be hotter. I don't know what 80 is, but since 100F is 38C then I think you need to try a bigger wattage bulb.

Experiment with other wattages. You can swap them around. I use 100 watts most of the year, but change to 75w during summer because ambient air temp will make a difference to your hot spot. The 75 may have been fine during the warmer months when the air is warmer, but when it's cooler the rock just doesn't get as hot. Force of habit, but I always stick my hand on the rock when I walk past to get a feel for when I may need to change to a higher or lower bulb.

But yes, tongue action bubbles have been mentioned here before by others.

When i have touched the rock it is warm to the touch.

That's a good sign at least. You may be underestimating the heat, but a tempgun would help. Does she spend all her time at the hot end?

Bubbles can be relavent if they smell something tasety in the air, you can always raise the basking spot up on stilts to get it closer to your heat source rather than just getting a higher wattage lamp, or you may need to do both.

I don't believe that she spends most of her time at the basking end but not all the time. Just to make sure i have today off so i think ill check on her more often to see if she isAlso Lately she has been hiding a lot. Since i changed her substrate yesterday she has discovered that she can bury herself deeper and has been doing that.

Well as of now the temp on the basking end is now 90. Its has slowly gone up to that. When it is cooler do they like to be in a baking spot more. Is it bad if they are there to long :sad3:
