That is true, some people believe that the mysterious fear in the average person of snakes and spiders is because of how they are represented in movies and TV decade after decade. Snakes on a plane is so over the top it almost just plays off the already existing fear so everyone just has fun at all the jumpy parts....it really is a fun movie.

Of course Charlotte's Web is the opposite! The new one is good! When Charlotte comes down for the first time, all the animals go berserk, but then when Wilbur says she's beautiful, she blushes. I thought of every ridiculous young teenager following in her mother's footsteps acting like all the other animals, then one brave soul makes the spider's day making everyone else feed stupid and ridiculous. Wow, I'm reading into this too much.

Many of my friends try to overlook my love for lizards. But, I have found new friends who share my interest in herps. And, I love my skinkies so much that I can identify with other people who love any kind of critter---snakes, tarantulas, etc. My kids have learned that all creatures deserve respect---not just dogs and cats. I watch movies like Snakes on Planes (haven't seen it) and worry that they will contribute to peoples' misconceptions and unfounded fears.

I feel exactly the same way. TV so often excentuates the negative in animals. Okay, I don't know how to spell that. Leigh, help me here...

I had to look it up. :shh:

I actually have the neatest little firefox add-on; I just hit alt-click on any word on the screen and a little window pops up with spelling, def, and even pronounces it out loud.

Ahh! I have a phobia of sharks, it's actually really bad! I have trouble swimming in deep water at pools even. Too many shark movies and a really creepy pool for swimmng lessons (lights on the side looked like big eyes, ahh!) have scared me bad. But even so, I still read all the facts I can, watch all the shows on TV, and plan to swim with sharks some day. Boy will that be an experience.

Mom, there's no way you can't know JAWS!

This movie is rated #1 on the Bravo horror countdown and with good reason....beaches were abandoned....no horror movie has had an affect on people/society like Jaws did.
