My new BTS!!!

Postby vincenzoo » Mon Nov 05, 2007 2:13 am

Hello!
There are my new BTS that I bought yesterday at my association's reptile tarde show in Illkirch (France)... there was not a lot of skinks, some tannies but not very cute and that's all... These are strange, the german exponant called them Tiliqua scincoides intermedia, but I wonder if they (or their parents) were not hybridized with tilqiua scincoides scincoides... They have a "northern" look (head, tail), but pattern have eastern traits (colors are more clear, they are a little bit too black on the picture!)... I will see what their babies done next year!!!!

Not to be rude, but you acknowledge that these are hybrids, yet you're going to breed them anyways? What are you going to sell the babies as? Wouldn't it be better to work harder at finding some pure sub-species and breeding those?

Don't breed them!

The one on the right is Irian Jaya, and the one on the left looks part scincoides.

+ 2.2 Irian Jaya (Slurpy, Nona, Sassy, Cool Moe Dee)
+ 1.1 Eastern (Eugene, Enzo)
+ 1.2 Northern (Niko, Pearl, Peach)

At the left it seems to be a female, on the right, a male...
You think it's pure IJ and pure eastern??? I've got IJ and eastern too...

These skinks are confusing, almost like a smorgusboard of subspecies. They don't look pure at all to me, but that's no guaranteed analysis.

No, the right one is IJ, and the left one I believe is a mix. Probably IJxNorthern.

I've got the answer from the original breeder, it's IJ x northern (they're coming from the same parents)...
And don't worry, I'll don't breed them...

That was my guess. "Pure" is a tough word to use with skinks where the parents are unknown or assumed. I wouldn't breed them.

Its interesting how one looks like an IJ and one looks like a hybrid.

Zach, maybe you should include something like this picture on the caresheet (with permission of course).

Defintely! The one has checkered legs, and the other has almost clean legs....I should know better though, because Maggie Moe Dee has completely clean front legs and her other siblings didn't... Ugh, this is why mixes stink.
