Newborn bluetongue!

Postby rachel » Sun Nov 25, 2007 12:35 am

I have recieved a blue tongue from a friend that cannot be more than a day old. Despite being harassed by pets it seems okay. I have an older blue tonge (jak) but little experience with younger blueys.

This newborn is also quite small-only 6 cms! Guys-i need all the help and advice i can get!

Also one more Q- He is very greedy, can he have as much food as he wants?

Wow, can't wait for pictures. Andrew Seike said my tannies were only 5cm (2 inches) when born, and thin as a pencil. I would have loved to see that.

I'd say treat it much like your older BTS. Let it eat as much as it wants, unless it starts to look amazingly fat. As babies, tubby is a good thing.

Good luck!

Sorry if I am stating the obvious ... make sure you have a small enough water dish with little water in it so your little friend doesn't get overcome by too much water. Sounds like an itty bitty little critter you have there. :ryo:

Oh, how sweet. A tiny bluey! :) I wonder why someone would give him to you at such a fragile age. Well, atleast you know something about the species, having an adult of your own already.

I know when I got my bluey she was a month or so old and 7 inches. But I think Easterns are a smaller bluey and they grow slower so your new baby may stay small for a while.

I say, if she's hungry feed her! Keep her warm during the day, give her uvb light, a basking spot and fresh water and she'll be good to go! 8)

Can't wait to see the pictures!

yes, i am aware of the laws and such...and cannot be positive he is wild caught-however the person i bought him from was not very reliable and did not seem to know much of the species..could not provide photos of parents and so on.

However, he adjusted fine to captive life so im not sure...
any ideas?
