boy or girl?

hi, i just purchused a shingleback lizard the only problem is i dont know if its a boy or girl? i have another shingleback and im planning to breed them so does any one know how to sex shinglebacks?

:welcome: there are loads of Aussies and breeders on here with shingles, they'll be able to give you first hand advice, you'll have to look for the boys bits and/or sperm plugs while he has a poo,how old is he/she?there are body indicators(head size and tail size) or would you know what mating behaviour looked like? there's a section about it in the careshet here( read it all, it's good knowledge) I wouldnt personally pop out (or try to )the hemipenes and probing is also dangerous for the skink even done by pro's.We would love to see pictures,its the law mate :thumbs:

Shingle boys have the blue Hemipenal vein visible just inside the base of the tail. I was looking to get some shingles that had been sexed by this method and asked if it worked. I got good replies on it. It's not popping the skink, your not trying to avert the hemipene, your just looking for a small blue dot inside, the vein. The link to the thread:

Some people also like to see their tails and heads to decide on their sex. Maybe if you take pics from above them someone will be able to help.

the one on the right has the tanky head male look about it,pics can be hard to judge by,do u have a birdseye pic showing them side by side there whole bodys next to each other,including there tails,will be easy to tell if u can show that,they look to be from the same type locality of m ost of my ones,nice looking lizards

Generally, male shinglebacks have a pointy end to their tail, and females have a very rounded tail.

Like Richard said, give us some top-downs and more full body shots.
They're nice, big shingles by the way :lol:
