Centralians??? Why are they so rare in the US?

Postby jasjmm27 » Tue Dec 04, 2007 4:46 pm

Hi All,

I have been curiously searching for additions to my BTS "family" and have been really interested in centralians...I like their colors and "curious" shape. I haven't found ANY breeders with any animals over the past three weeks of searching (about 3-5 hours a night, on and off). I am curious as to why they are so rare...is it just because they were not imported in time to beat the exportation ban in Australia or are they also very difficult to breed in general? Does anyone know of any breeders in the states, southwest in particular? I would like to see some of these animals in person...at the very least!

Well, just a curiuosity of mine, hope someone has more answers...guess I could have researched this on Google as well, but I figured I would get more interesting answers from this forum. :ohyes:

probably because they aren't "everywhere" in Australia. Sure we can get them fairly easy - but they aren't found in your average pet store as Blotchies or Easterns. Private breeders would be the go over here, and even still you're looking at around $400 for one. ( I actually found a pet store near the city that has them for just over $300 - I was very tempted!)

Blotchies, Easterns, and Northerns are by far the easiest to come across. Westerns are also fairly common, but have a price tag somewhat like a centralian.

I know I didn't really answer your question, that's because I'm not sure as to why they are hard to get a hold of over there, but rest assured, they aren't a dime a dozen over here as well, but they are getable with a little effort.

Good luck with your search!

The only person in NA I know of with Centralians is Andrew Seike. He currently has 2 young ones, and he's not certain if they are a pair yet. Hopefully he will eventually be able to breed. Info on his centrals can be found at his site, www.seikereptiles.com

Actually, I think Mythical Chameleons, wherever they are located, also had some Centrals, along with shingles. Maybe contact them and ask.

Centrals will be hard to find, and cost a pretty penny. I'd like to get some eventually as well. But I'm hoping to get some shingles within a year, so centrals will have to wait. Eventually though, I will have some.

You may need to import if you're really serious about getting one. Be ready to shell out thousands of dollars for one.

Thanks for you input Fatal. I have actually sent an email to Andrew already inquiring about many of his beautiful animals, I will have to add that to the list! 8-) I will also attempt to find Mythical Chameleons and see if they might have some available...

I have always wanted a Shingle, since I was about 14...(13 years ago tomorrow). I think I might be interested in finding some of those now, too! I guess they just slipped my mind for the last few weeks after seeing all these amazing Blueys!

Do you know of any reputable Shingle breeders that might be near Arizona? I would prefer someone close so I can pick them up, but if there is someone with some "better" Shingles a bit further and they are experienced shippers, then I would be interested in knowing about them as well! Ugh...sounds like I need a bigger house!!! :) It all started with a little Indo named Fenix! ...that's probably what I will be saying in about 5 years! ...maybe less??? ;)

Is it even possible to import Centralians? Do you mean from another country like the UK or Canada? That would be something interesting to look into...I saw a site in Australia that is selling Centrals for $110! :-|

http://www.pilbarapythons.com/skinksforsale.htm

It is like a Christmas list for me! :) $110 for adult WC OR Baby captive...plus $110 for Shingles, too!

I think they get you on the shipping and "export consignment" though, if you are outside of W.A. $180 for that (though you can divide between 5 animals if you get that many...i.e. $36/animal). At any rate, just saw it and was too excited...until I saw it was in Australia! :( Too bad for me... Hope it can work out for you...I am sure you are outside of W.A. though? I don't know my Australian Geography very well...

We cannot import from Aus. We can however import from the UK, Denmark, Germany and other such places. It takes a lot of work, and a lot of money, but can happen. The question is, do you have several thousand dollars to blow?

The only shingle dealer I know of at all is someone named Jim Pether. I dont think he's in the states, but he does export to there. Once again, expect to pay mucho moneys. I went through several people to get his e-mail, and will be contacting him soon about possibly getting some shingles from him. Zach I believe knows some other breeders. I also almost bought some from a man on the forum, but he decided to keep his, with promise to contact me if they breed.

Nice! Yes, I thought that all export from Australia was closed.

Let us know how your Shingle purchase goes, maybe Jim can advertise on here at some point so that more of us can have access to those amazing Blueys! I have a budget, but am willing to pay for a quality animal. :)

Have you been able to get pictures of your possible purchase yet, or is it only in preliminary stages?

Totally preliminary. I have a large savings of several thousand dollars, but I'm trying to leave it be and just save money from my job. I first hope to buy a new set of enclosures, then get the shingles. After Christmas shopping all my money shall go to the herps, hopefully leaving my savings fund alone.

Yeah - I'm in Victoria (Melbourne) - The greatest State in Australia! Voted Numerous times as most livable city in the world (Melbourne), and also Voted to have the cleanest drinking water in the world. Along with those great achievments, we Have the best Arts Facilities in Aus (Theatre, Music, Dance etc..) and we are also the sporting capital of Australia. Seeing as Australia is officially the sporting capital of the world, I guess it actually means that Melbourne is the sporting Capital of the World!!! Awesome! :D

Darn Mexicans! You all have a chip on your shoulder! Why not tell them about the - ahem - great weather you have down there?
Actually, I agree that Melbourne is a better city than Sydney, but Sydney is much nicer to look at with the harbour and all. Pity it's full of wankers!

Luke, Richard took Kylie's centralian Rocky and has some others and may look to breed them in the future.
But take a ticket and stand in line buddy, I've got first dibs :nanny:

HAHA Lisa!

Melbourne Weather aint that bad as of late - pity we are still in need of some rain. In regards to the views of Sydney - they're currently making Melbournes Docklands nicer on the eye. It's actually coming along quite well. After all we have the tallest building in the southern Hemisphere now.

I reckon Melbourne CITY is actually nicer to look at than Sydney - Quite easily in fact. With all the trees we have, and the old Architecture. As you said - Sydney has the bridge and the opera house - but big woop! I reckon you have a better local where you are - the Blue Mountains poop all over Sydney city.
