yeah the Shot is questionable, But if your skink dies as a result of the vets decision - kill the vets child. Then he'll know what it feels like.

I dont think we are saying this shot was a deadly stupod choice, more of a the mark of a not so qualified reptile vet.
However, you see this kind of "preventative" antibiotic stuff in every type of doctor, especially human ones.
Sadly, all it takes to become a doctor is a great ability to memorize and regurgitate information (That plus money and time)...

... Oh yeah! and the occasional rasberry, or blackberry, or egg.
Add some dry ingredients to his food. His diet is a bit too wet.
these should help. dice apple & mushroom into little pieces (do not put them in a food processor.) Aslo snails if you can get them otherwise sprinkle on some crushed eggshell every 2nd or 3rd meal.
Geoff.

Dear Gods, I have to agree, the shot thing is just not a good idea unless life or death. I also agree with Nomad that antibiotics are disgustingly over prescribed in this country, for both people and animals.
I would really get a second opinion if possible, and as Blueys have elongated lungs (compared with people/mammals) I'd make sure that shot (if you absolutely have to give it) goes in the rear part of the skink.
I like Blotch's answer. If your Skinker dies, kill the vets kid so they'll know how it feels! Ha Ha!

The shots are anti-biotic, but i also think they help for if there is an infection in his sinus or any of those other nook and crannies. He said he would rather give the shots than an oral medicine because injections are more studied and predictable. He is also getting a mouth wash to help clear things up. He is a pretty good herp vet and breeder, (MANY animals) so... yeah.

He his taking Virbac and Fortez (spelling?) The vet said it might be a respetory, (again, spelling?) By the by, the food got old while it was under his scale, and got in the cut or something. It is looking better every day! So apparently it is working.
While I am here... He shed today and yesterday and is looking brand new!!! That helped too.

I would not trust a vet who thinks sneezing is a reason to suspect respitory infections, they sound like they are guessing to me. If in the future your skink realy did need anti-biotics he(your skink) may not respond totreatment as it would have already been used on something imaginary(if you know what I mean)
MMMmmmmm... Something???????

Yeah, I imagine skinkers build up a resistance just like kids if overprescribed with antibiotics.
bluecheezytree: We don't mean to bust your ba**s here. Just want to give you as much info on it as possible. (That's why I love this place.)
