Thanks for the warm welcome guys!
The blueys were purchased from Snake Ranch (
www.snakeranch.com.au) - the commercial offshoot of the Australian Reptile Park, both run by John Weigel. I believe it was John, or a member of the Snake Ranch team, that labelled these guys quite appropriately as 'Salt n Pepper', so i can't take credit for their creativity, i will however take credit for my lack of creativity in that i couldn't think of anything else to name them other than Salt n Pepper. Although as they are the founding members of their respective projects it is kind of fitting.
At the moment they are housed in large plastic tubs approximately 3ft x 1ft. A large portion of the lid has been replaced with wire mesh to allow good ventilation a to allow the lizards to be heated from above. Currently they're on newspaper but i am considering switching over to aspen bedding as i'd like for them to be able to dig around. Aspen bedding is quite new on the scene here in Oz, all reports are it is great and perfect for blueys as well as numerous other species of lizards and snakes. What would your opinions be on aspen bedding for bluey? Is there anything negative about this product that i should consider?
The melanistic bluey will be looking quite a lot better IMO over the next few months. After that time he will be jet black all over and under. Currently he has a beautiful pattern on his belly which unfortunately will disappear, although it won't look half bad when it is completely black either.
