Silly Question -Easterns

Postby Scotts1au » Mon Jan 14, 2008 3:43 am

Hi folks, after taking a look at Andrew Seikes website I thought I'd ask if anyone associated with this group has approached the Authorities to see what it would take to be able to import a few Easterns?

Could it be done through a zoo program, University etc?

Possibly a naive question?

I believe you need to have an approves cites license and they aren't handed out to anyone. if Easterns were endangered it'd be a possibility but that just isn't the case.

I'm sure zoo's could get a hold of a pair, but when you look at it, what's the point? They aren't native stock, and they are Designer blueys.

In regards to the native stock - why import something we have an abundance of in the wild?

I see your point and I love what andrew is doing myself, but it is makes no sense to bring one to oz in the eyes of the Gov't. Set up a breeding program of your own, I reckon that'd be your best bet. Email Andrew and talk to him about how he went about it etc.. i'm sure he'll give you some good tips, he's a top bloke.

I think it'd be a better option to bring in some meraukes to oz personally.

Sorry for the confusion but I meant import from the US perspective :-) from Aus.

Surely if we can sent Koalas and other stuff to zoos and academia etc around the world we could send a few lizards provided that it was part of a bone fide breeding program.

It would be awesome to collectively try to get this done... even some shingles...( lol ). It wouldnt be easy but I believe there has to be a way some how. From what I've been told it would have to be with government consent and the whole nine yards.

Scott - that's silly! Don't you like the fact that we have something the yanks don't? Pure Blooded Easterns with temporal Streaks. and an abundance at that! :P sorry that's the evil coming out!

In all seriousness now, I doubt it would happen.
America has blueys. They are openly sold as pets. I doubt the Australian gov't would allow them to be shipped over there just so they can have a pair with eye bands. If they did allow it to happen, I'd be pretty peeved because i know the same thing wouldn't be allowed for us.

Anyway, i doubt Rudd would allow it. Johnny boy may have though. thankfully he is gone hey?
