Wahoo!!!
Alright so you all have been helping me with breeding my Blue Tongues. Well today I put them together after a few days. They looked at each other for around 20 minutes and then out of no where a bite to the neck. My heart was racing, things got rough. My male could not get the grip he wanted, but finally after around 1 minute he got his grip and the copulation began. I am so excited!! I have breed other animals but nothing like this before. My female got a few cuts so I cleaned them up. My question is should I put her back in her bedding or put her on newspaper/paper towls. I also read you should breed three times. Is this true, should I introduce them again tomorrow?

We were just waiting till they smoked their little bluey ciggys to comment.
Nice to hear you ended up with a boy and a girl and all the parts work. Have not done any breeding but have heard you should introduce them several times to make sure things "take". Try sending a PM to Zach and see what he advises. He is here just about every day.

Hey thanks all, I am already planning setting up for the babies. I will house them seperatly so no nips or fight break out. I plan on introducing them tommorow again. It was really weird that it took my male this long to finally decide to breed. Zach how many times do you introduce and have them breed? I will keep you all updated!

Congrats.
.
dont just let them mate 3 times. Do more mating, to be sure. The "wounds" the female gets, is normaly not seriouse.
Me skinks have mate many times now, think 7, and the female dont look that wounded.Only superficial wounds, nothing that make me worried.

Hey, sorry for the late reply...
Good job! I usually breed once per day to every other day for a window of about two weeks. This can greatly vary depending on ready the female is and how excited the male ie. Usually, Slurpy starts dropping sperm plugs every day with nothing else (because he's not eating since it's brumation) and that's my sign he's ready. I then start warming up Sassy a little bit and them subsequently breed in the comming 2 weeks. I'm just about ready to start myself!
If you breed early in the morning, you could even try twice in one day if the second attempt was much later in the day. I know Ray does that and has had success.
Also base your attempts on how your female is doing. Some males are rougher than others and sometimes the female can get chewed up a bit. If this is happening, you want to try to reduce the amount of breedings of possible. Slurpy is SLOW and takes his time situating and re-situating Sassy to the point that she's bleeding. Nona on the other hand, (Renee's IJ make) charges, grabs, mates, let's go all in a matter of about 2 or 3 minutes. Slurp can take 20 minutes. This is also based on how well you time your breeding and if you make that perfect window of opportunity. If you're a little late, the male could act lethargic and only semi-interested -- the female could act defensively and attack the male scaring him so badly that he might not even try again that day! I've had that happen several times....
Good luck!

Hey thanks for the reply. I have been breeding once a day everyday for the past four days. Everything seem to be alright. My male is the type to take 20 minutes to fins his right grip though. My female is a bit cut up but I think she is alright. Today when I put them together the tail was waving 100 hundred miles an hour lol. Do you think 7 breeds would be good?
