Postby Drew » Tue Feb 12, 2008 8:40 am

visited the Singapore Zoo and had a fabolous time there.. of course I was looking for the reptile exhibit to find some BTS. found this guy at the Australian Outback exhibit.

sorry guys but no shot of the whole enclosure but its so grand and really nice. It was even designed that some parts were housing sugar gliders. :)

Image

im thinking if it was an IJ though. sorry no other "clear" pics :D :)

Very nice. I love the differences between BTS and beardies. Neat exhibit.

If you're going to keep em together, just like with keeping more than one BTS together, they need enough space to get away from each other. BTS and beardies are a good choice, as they're about equal in size, strength, speed and attitude. Does anyone know if they have different numbers of chromosomes?

Very nice, someone of a forum asked about housing those two species together. It was quickly said that is would not be good.....who knows

It's not a great idea, you'd need a large home for them, and there's always the chance one will attack the other, but it's better than housing a BTS and a nile monitor, or a BTS and a leo. I'm guessing it would also be best to have a girl of each, but who knows.

Gosh ... seems like a zoo would make a better choice.

I wouldn't do it either, but I was very surprised that the zoo did it as well! They appear to be similar size, and I guess the zoo would have the space to be able to adequately house them together. But I have no idea how long they've been housed together, how big the enclosure is, etc.
Drew, how big would you guess that enclosure to be?
I love Beardies and I certainly wouldn't turn one away that needed rescuing but for now I'm still saving up for a Driveway Turd.

Wayyyy too far apart haha.

Beardie=agamidae, Skinks=scincidae.

Thats like cats (felidae) and dogs (canidae)!

I've had my Beardie and Blue out in the same room, they dont care about each other much at all, as long as they have a basking spot each( with distance between them), they tend to be on different levels (Beardie up on log Bluey closer to ground)and Fatal my Beardie could out sprint any Bluey, trust me when she goes you need starting blocks to catch her.
MMMmmmmm... Something???????

yeah beardies are heaps quicker than Blueys. I've seen Blueys and beardies housed together in alot of enclosures throughout my life. I wouldn't do it unless they had the same heating requirements, but it seems that they do infact go ok together. Like A Staffy and a Rotty i guess.

Shingleback - Nice Jacky Dragon - I used to catch them when I was 8 or so. The cranbourne botanical Gardens has them, and I was too young to know it was illegal, but I used to see HEAPS of them. They're fast! The amount of times I used to "ALMOST" have one, haha - so satisfying when I actually got my hands on them though.

I've never seen a beardie move fast -.-' In fact, all the beardies I've seen just sit there, vegetating. Do the big adult ones move fast too, or just the babies?

I'm pretty sure a beardy is tough enough to take a bite from a BTS. It's not like a soft little gecko. Don't want them to bite of course, but I don't think either could kill each other with a simple bite.
