Exo Terra Bulbs

Postby melmel1987 » Mon Mar 10, 2008 3:19 am

Hey hey

I have just bought a exo terra 100Watt "sun glo" basking bulb for one of my Beardies and the change in her already is amazing!!

She did have a red heat lamp in before.

Now I want to get these white bulbs for my Frilled & my skink BUT whereas my Beardies have screw in fittings, the skink and frilled have bayonet and i have tried the website and my petshop for a bayonet style but cannot find one =[

Does anyone know if they do a bayonet style or recommend a bulb that does that will have the same heat & light effect as the sun glo?

Thanks in advance.

If I remember correctly, there isnt anything special about that bulb compared to a normal incandescent light bulb that you can pick up at any store. The Exo-terra ones are just overpriced.

Go to BnQ or anywhere that sells lamps, and buy or ask for an R63 spot lamp, I use a 60W at its spot on(pun intended),it'll give you a nice tight beam onto your basking surface, trust me I'm a sparky.

There is basically no difference, aside from light quality.

Its like the difference between a 40 cent bulb from walmart and a $1 bulb from home depot.

il give B&Q a try.

A normal house bulb doesn't work in my thermostat.

Ah Leigh my friend ... so punny. Can you explain to me what R63 is in reference to? Might have to check into those type. Is it a halogen bulb?

No mate, its a normal incandessent lamp, the 63 bit refers to the diameter of the lamp,I'll try and explain, its 63mm across the face of the lamp(the bit that emmits light) from the bayonet(the bit into the lamp holder) down the neck to the face is internally coated with reflective foil, allowing light to only leave from the wide face section, hmmmmm imagine it was a normal household globe but soft and pliable,if you pushed on a flat suface ,it would flatten it out,I tried to upload a pic ,but failed,I'll try again in the morning, gotta a do a runner for bread and milk now :bye:

this was what I was trying to upload last night,so the 63 refers to the diameter at the widest part, where the light comes out,
