Hand feeding is SO much fun! :)

Postby jasjmm27 » Wed Mar 12, 2008 11:11 am

Ok, so I just had the chance to do my first hand feedings yesterday...most of my skinks don't appreciate it and will just turn their heads, but my big, sweet GIRL (thought she was a he for a while) Rancilia just looked at me weird, licked, realized it tasted good and then took the grape from me! :ohyes: I managed to give her 2 grapes, but she didn't want the strawberry slices... I tried that with my other northerns...nothing, just turned and walked away...by the way, I really think that Rancilia is "wooing" Mack...it's really odd because he doesn't seem interested in her! :( He will chase down Silvia and she runs away and even has had his head in her mouth (and made some mean marks) 3 times at least! I had a real scare last time since it looked like his eye was popping out! :| But, he was fine...just more WARY and even scared of the ladies after that! Hopefully he will forget the trauma in a day or two!

Ok, back to feeding...so, Rancilia took the grapes and NOW, this morning, I just saw Mitch wake up and he took two as well! He spit up the second one since he ate too fast..but gobbled it down later! ;) I don't know what it is, but hand feeding is SO cool! Just makes me feel all "warm" inside! hahaha! 8)

Just thought I would share...it was fun...

Awwww, ani't it great?
I love hand feeding Chuffers. He is actually very gentle with most foods but he loves chicken so much that he gets all excited. He accidentally got my finger once, but he had the sense to know that it was attatched to me and he didn't bite down hard or anything. He just kind of backed up and let me leave the chicken shred in his mouth.
Try feeding hard boiled egg chunks and mango, see how they like it! Just keep your fingers clear of Mitch's big old jaws, I bet he could do some real damage if he bit down hard on a finger! :D

I thought I would add in here....my bluey eats strawberries and other stuff out of my hands, too. I felt so honored the first time Vinnie did it and had to tell everyone in the family and at work. They think I am nuts...I am nuts over my bluey :heyho:

you guys are so lucky... hank goes nuts for his food and i have tried to hand feed, but there was no chance of that. when i went to feed him a pinky one time i was gonna hand feed it but i thought better, it was the first time i have ever seen a skink jump. he had atleast 6 inches clearance between him and the ground. and his mouth opened a good 90 degree's. he actually pulled the feeding tweezers the mouse was on out of my hands! i'd hate to see what would've happened if that was my fingers

Yeah, unfortunately I only did that when I was on my way out the door for work (already late checking out my boys and girls), so I couldn't work on the photo op...hopefully I will try again this weekend. :)

Oliver, Vinnie looks just like Annubis! Wish she would eat from my hand as well! Right now I think she is growing some trust, but it may take a few weeks/months...Vinnie's shape is just like Annubis, though Annubis has some darker coloration, esp the eyeband.

I will keep trying with her as well! I doubt Fenix will come around...though he IS getting better with being handled...ever so slightly. He's been shedding though, so...a real grump! Actually got him to gape when I was rubbing his head to try to get some shed off after a soak. ;)

Oh, by the way...Mitch DID do a swallow/yawn thing right after chowing on some strawberry... ;) It was great! He does have a big mouth! My Northern's (Rancilia) mouth looks just about as big as his and she is like 2X as long and 3 times as massive! :D Mitch definitely is the little guy that is the least shy about eating...I think he figures it is easier that way! No "bending down", just open wide and get a tasty surprise! ;)

Ok ok, I will do my best to catch Mitch "in the act". :) He doesn't seem to open his mouth too wide, but he likes his grapes! Gave him two more on my lunch break (had to visit my little buddies!) and he gladly accepted. ;)

I love hand feeding!!~ >_<

My problem is that Duke won't really eat any of his food unless I hand feed him ^_^
Good thing I love doing it ;D

I like feeding him snails and worms the best. he opens his mouth REALLY wide and does the whole head shaking thing. ^_^

Ooooh...do you have any pics of Duke with the snails? Maybe he needs a friend to learn from???

My camera doesn't take good pics of action...by the time the camera take a shot the moment has passed. I haven't tried snails yet with Vinnie, but an going to try soon.
