Soo..What do I need?

Postby Jade Icing » Fri May 30, 2008 3:02 pm

:D So I am making a list of what I need for Bo and was wondering if people could help out.

So far tank...

36Lx16Wx12H

Bulbs Ceramic heat one (watts?) (How many lamps? Right now I have one but it is a small tank.)

Fake plants

Basking rock (I can not find one big enough for all of Bo)

Therm/Hum monitor

Log for Bo to go under (Again none big enough)

Litter (I read I could use carefresh)

Anything else? :D

Sounds like you've got a good list going ^_^

For the basking rock, a dark colored tile will do ^_^
I put two dark tiles together and that works pretty well

For bulbs, if it's summer, than one big one will do. I have one 100watt lamp over the heating spot right now. In the winter, i have one 100watt and a 75 watt. Ceramic generate more heat so I'd go with a 100watt.

There are log hides at petsmart i think that are big enough. I have a log hide and I have a large cardboard tube. Plus, an overturned shoebox or tissue box is well loved ^_^ Just cut a little opening and they're good.

Carefresh is fine ^_^

Cool I can pick some up at Home Depot.

Thank you very much. I will add that to my list!

Hmm I can do box very easily. I am always saving them for my bunnies. I am sure I will have one that will fit for just him. Saves money, which I like means more fun stuff for the animals.

Carefresh is fine ^_^

Again I can save money that is what I use for my special needs bunny.

Nail clippers. I use the bird/reptile type. You can use regular ones for humans but their toes are so small I fear chopping of the whole toe. :?

Hey when I found out that he/she would live so long I had to achieve the perfect home for him. I do it for my other animals why not Bo. He is the one I have had the longest.

I don't have a slanted water dish. I saw them but knowing my luck chomper would just drown himself. They are super easy to make though. If you hit up a ymca or something you can make it yourself in a ceramics class or something similar..

this one took like...an hour? to make. then its fired then like 10 mins tops to glaze, then it's fired and bam! it's done. whole thing cost me like 2 bucks.. Instead of 30 for one big enough to soak in.
But I think people also use glass casserole dishes? or something similar.

Since you have an indonesian type species, I suggest using some substrate other than carefresh. I used it for all mine, but my tannies seemed to have some issues shedding. Now they're on repti-bark, and everything already seems moister. As a plus, Skids is now on repti-bark too, he doesn't eat it like he did the carefresh -.-'

I just use big dog bowls for my water bowls. If they curve then they can fit their whole body in. Petco has big blue ones with a foot print on the inside that I like. It's plastic and under $10.

Also, for a basking spot, use bricks. They hold heat very well.

I used bricks in the freezer to cool my buns when my central air was messed up. I may still have them.
