I am attempting to raise my own superworms... If anyone here has done this before, how long does it take for worms to go from eggs to feeding size worms? More than a month? I have heard you can feed the beetles to BTS as well.. Anyone else do this?

Ann, I guess we are both difficult because my vote is for silkworms as well. :)

I vote for silkworms. But Frankie will only eat wax worms. She has spit out both the butterworms and the silkworms.

Phoebe spit out the first/only butterworm I gave her. I think I still try them again - they have lots of calcium.

I'm going to try silkworms again with Frankie, since the other two of them like them and I'm going to start ordering them with Ann. I'm not sure about the butterworms. Both Frankie and Spike spit them out and they are hard to find here. I might give them another try when I go to the next reptile expo.

Kelly how often do you give your guys silk worms?

Thanks Tiger for posting those sites, I found this very interesting.

"A great feeder that is often overlooked is earthworms. Because of their moisture content and low ash, they tend to be highly digestible by all animals. Easily cut into bite sized portions that still move to keep your animals attention...Great protein content makes them easily our number one choice for feeders..."

I fed mine a few weeks ago, when I asked on here about them, they both seemed to love the earthworms.

Yes, you can. BTS will pretty much eat just about any arthropod, as they would do in the wild.

Bubba likes all kinds of worms. I've never tried a live food he hasn't liked, really. Except that he won't really eat crickets (too fast), or regular mealworms (too small). But he loves butterworms, silkworms, superworms, nightcrawlers. I wish my leopard gecko's were that open minded.

Hmm, how does this match the buttermworm nutrition table?

• Crude Protein: 63.8% — 11.4%
• Fat: 10.6% — 22.7%
• Ash: 7.4% — 9.9%
• Carbohydrate: 18.2% — 56.0%
• Calcium: 0.34% — 0.08%
• Phosphorus: 0.8% — 0.78%
• Ca:P: ratio 1 : 2.35 — 1 : 9.75

They appear to be in a different conversion or whatever.
