Interesting that there is virtually no information on the web about Aus native snails and I know for a fact that Native snails are pathetic little things - like the little blue snails that you occassionally find in the bush. It is amazing to me that Blueys know what to do with big Euro snails.

I agree, the natives are pathetic little things (but their shells seem harder), but my experience with them is that they actually kill or eat the big eurotrash ones. I've put them into a container with the euro's and the euro's have died everytime and the native is still there. Could be coincidence but I don't mix them anymore.

Being smaller they're harder to find, too. Still good eating but!

Thanks for the nose alert Shadow. I will make sure to open them as far away from myself as humanly possible. If they are that disgusting I may ban them as well.

Yeah, they're a little gross, but not as gross as the canned silkworm pupae. :hurl: But my skink likes to paint with poo, so as far as he's concerned the smellier the better.

I've bought humane grade canned escargo before. Its still gross, but cheaper than buying the ones made specifically for pets. Or you can buy from www.petguys.com

Awesome pricing, good service, and reasonable shipping...

Tattoo wrote:While on the snail topic ... has anyone tried the can o snails made by Zoo Med? I know they have no shell but they can always be sprinkled.

My mystery snails (which were supposed to be pest free) seem to have introduced something into my aquarium that I am unwilling to risk feeding to Tattoo. They are little tiny twitching things that look like microscopic grains of rice. First saw them on my lone baby snail and yesterday found them all over in my large aquarium. Don't know how they will affect the plecos but the boy won't be eating any of those snails. Looks like they get the pet pass. Heck with the colony ... I'm going for the can.

Sprinkle crushed egg shells on,it can be fair sized bits with no worries.

Garden snals grow really quick, too. I'm already feeding mine out and they aren't yet two months old.

I get my snails from petsmart.
The parasitic ones are too small to actually make a meal out of unless i get A LOT. But I gave him just a few and he actually ATE THEM and LOOKED for MORE! ;O

They sell mystery snails but I'm scared they're too big and he'll choke.
You think it's safe for me to feed him mystery snails even thought they're the side of his head?? Will he crunch them to pieces or try swallowing it whole?

He'll crunch and crunch and crunch. ^.^ Apple/Mystery snails are what I fed to Pryce several times, and he opened his mouth really wide, got it into his mouth, and smushed it. Yumm yumm. Don't want my fingers in that mouth.

Most BTS adore snails. Try again, he should gobble them right up. If not, take him to see a shrink, something must be wrong
