I try to live by the mantra there is no grey, I'm right and anyone who says otherwise is wrong. :edward:

However I can concede to agreeing to disagree.(I'm still right though, Darn us oppressive feminine narcissists) :snooty: :lol:



A little more to topic though how fast do those snailys get to snackin size?

Woohoo snail babies! They are cute! I'm still waiting for mine to get in the mood. :roll: I was greeted with an awful smell today and discovered that Goldy #8 had bit the dust. That has to be one of the worst smells my nose has ever encountered! :dead:

I agree I had a baseball sized brown mystery snail get caught under the gravel in one of my tanks I don't think a worse smell exists.

Congrats on your breeding success!! Don't post these anywhere wildlife officers might find it though -- it is illegal to possess any type of nonnative mystery snail and you can get a hefty ticket. Just FYI, I'm not going to be the snail police. Just don't go dumping extras into any streams or ponds and I'll be happy -- ohhhhh, wouldn't Maya loooooove a mouthful of those!

Oooh I forgot about that! I was going to ask about that long ago when I first started with the idea, and I completely forgot. I read somewhere about how you had to apply for a license to do anything with them as they are considered pests here. :shock:

Ya, we are collecting some from the wild where they've invaded our lakes to research, I was hoping to snag some to feed to Maya, but I have to try and do it on the downlow so word doesn't start circulating (since I do work for the state wildlife agency). Basically your choices are to (and, on the record, I didn't say this) just keep it quiet and make sure no individuals or eggs make their way into ponds, streams, etc (I know, unlikely if your skink's mouth is anything like mine!) or call your local extension office or VA Game and Inland Fish branch and check, if you want to make sure everything is above board.

Oh yeah, I took a aquaculture class in high school, and am aware of damage that foreign species of animals can have on local ecosystems. A guy working at petsmart mentioned that he let a pet lizard of his go, I couldn't believe it. I wanted to say something, but he was giving me free snails as a favor, so I restrained. For the class I ended up taking some tilapia home and even had to agree to kill and filet them and not change my mind and let them go, haha.

For a minute I got confused how he thought a lizard could survive in the wild, but then I remembered that there are lizards other places. The only wild lizard where I live is the northern prairie skink, which I have never seen, because I don't often have the chance to go to the prairie.

I got apple snails at the pet shop to feed my bluey. they are pretty big and covered with algea is it a good idea to feed this to my bluey my bluey is huge but I'm worried he might try to swallow them whole and choke. hoping for some advice soon because he eats today and I wanted to check with people before feeding them to him thanks

How big is your bluey?

I think the general rule is feed your bluey nothing bigger than the distance between its eyes, but I don't tend to live feed, so I'm not sure. Anyone else going to pipe up with the correct answer for me, guys?

Also, the older the apple snail, the thicker and tougher the shell will be. If it's too hard, you may have to smash it a little first.
