Luke, you squished em by hand? Ewww.

I want geckos in my house. Only lizard native to Manitoba is the Northern Prairie Skink, and that's endangered -.-' None of them in my house.

LittleFoot, I don't think it's bravery really, I've just convinced myself they can't escape. I still have a good look around though every time I go underneath to mist them. There's drawings on the wall, and I have to make sure the drawings aren't bugs. Lastly they don't seem to make much noise at all (unless being moved/misted), so no creepy under-the-bed noises for me.

Scott, what's a woodie? And in a preemptive move, please keep it PG people!

Okay, makes sense.

I just gave the roaches more water, fresh veggies, and misted them. The Dubia have really grown. The Turkistans are also growing. The Discoids and Hissers seem to be staying the same :( I want big hissers!

Upkeep is pretty simple, but I may have a hard time getting them out once i start feeding them off. They keep moving and running from me. Big meanies.

I've seen what are probably a couple of different cockroach species for sale as "woodies". I just take it as a generic term for species that are used as feeders but are from species that burrow into rotting wood, they don't have wings but have large juicy abdomens.

The ones I put in my garden were from a nearby bush reserve.

There are 400 + species of cockroaches in Aus.

This is a photo of a giant cockroach but they look like this picture but only grow to a bit over an inch in length.

I introduced them as part of my grand plan for my garden as a wildlife garden. Image

Mine have eaten them ones outside, it's a pretty horrendous act to watch because it takes a while for them to get them down because they're so big. I usually find them in pairs or more and I always apologise to them if I disturb them. For a cockroach, they're kinda cute looking.

Thats the sort I have (I think) some look the same, maybe a little blacker, but some have wings as well when fully grown, I'll have to get a picture of them so you's can all have a guess at what sort they are, they're bloody fast when on the escape.

Awwwwww, little tank! It looks a little spikier in the legs than the B. Dubias, but the Dubias are pretty cute like that as well, especially the adult females! The girls have these little wings that look like a shawl across the upper middle segment of their fat bodies.

Cute, huh?

And the male's wings are long, like a cloak. . . and they're really really soft!

I love my Dubias.
Hey Fatal, I have the long metal feeding tongs for grabbing the Turkistan roaches, they're too quick to grab by hand and I don't want to risk escapees.
that, and the yuk factor is high with those guys for me. So hopefully that'll help you out?
